The ongoing neglect and poor management by the National Highway Authority (NHA) have turned the GT Road in Gujranwala Division into a dangerous route, causing numerous hardships for travelers.
Pathways from Gakhar to Rahwali are filled with large potholes and severely damaged sections, making driving hazardous and putting lives and property at risk.
Frequent Vehicle Breakdowns and Punctures on GT Road
Reports of punctured tires and vehicle breakdowns have become common, with nearly 3 to 4 cases reported daily. Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable, as many reports indicate injuries caused by uneven road surfaces. Residents say that road travel remains a constant challenge and leads to vehicle repair costs amounting to thousands of dollars each month.
Lack of Action from NHA Despite Complaints
Despite repeated written and verbal complaints, NHA officials have yet to take any substantial action. Citizens state that road conditions are worsening by the day, while officials remain in their offices.
GT Road: A Critical Connection in Danger
Locals have also highlighted that the GT Road is a crucial link between major cities, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, and Sialkot, yet it remains a dangerous route for commuters. Travellers have also warned that night driving often leads to vehicles overturning due to deep potholes, resulting in increased road accidents and serious injuries.
Residents continue to implore the Federal Minister for Communications and the NHA authorities to take immediate action and begin the repair and rehabilitation work on an emergency basis.
