Welcome to another episode of PakWheels Expert Review series. Today, we have a detailed review of the dark horse of our auto market, Changan Alsvin. Master Motors launched this B-segment sedan last year.

In the beginning, very little was known about this car, and people didn’t give Changan enough credit for introducing such a wonderful car in an affordable price bracket. In just a year, Changan Alsvin has proven its worth and won the hearts of sedan buyers. Alsvin is now, hands down, the best value for money sedan of Pakistan.

Without further ado, let’s dive into the expert review.

Fuel Average

Let’s start with the fuel average of Changan Alsvin. Our experts drove the car on the highway with a full tank for up to 207 kilometres and got a fuel average of 17 kilometres per litre.

Drive

Alsvin Lumiere has a 1.5L engine that generates 105 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque with DCT and gives a smooth ride within the city.

If you drive the car with manual gear selection, you can take as much power as you want. But if you are driving it in automatic, the car will lag in power because the Engine Control Unit (ECU) has been programmed to deliver maximum fuel average, not power. So, you can go both ways and choose power or fuel efficiency however you like.

Another one-up of Alsvin is its feature of cruise control for highway journeys. And another is its speed-sensitive electronic power steering. It adjusts its power assistance with speed. The steering is soft and easy to maneuver at low speed and stiff at high speed.

Overall, Alsvin has a really smooth drive with soft suspension and good ground clearance. Many people think this Chinese car would be lightweight and fragile, won’t handle well, and lose its grip. But that’s not the case at all. Alsvin has impressive road grip and stability.

Exterior

Coming to the looks, Changan Alsvin is a beautiful car. The front butterfly grille is a combination of chrome and piano black. With projection headlamps and LED curve DRLs, the car’s bulky front look is inspired by the modern Lexus and Toyota family cars.

On the side profile, we have 15-inch alloy wheels, body-colored door handles, chrome-lined side view mirrors, and twin curves. The rear profile looks similar to the Lexus IS 250. The rear lights resemble Audi A3 tail lights. The car’s rear also features reflectors, parking sensors, a high-roof brake lamp, and a shark fin antenna.

Although small in size, Changan Alsvin has everything an affordable sedan buyer can ask for. All the design elements contribute to the car’s beautiful looks.

Interior

Moving on to the car’s interior, we have keyless entry (not smart, which means you don’t use the key, but you need the key). The first thing you notice inside the cabin is the plastic interior. The dashboard, steering wheel, and all other interior elements are plastic.

The D-shaped steering wheel has a beautiful silver lining. Headlight and side-view mirror adjustment buttons are right under the driver seat’s AC vent. There are many storage spaces at the front, beside the AC vents, glovebox, inside the centre console, and doors.

The curvy dashboard looks modern with a combination of chrome and piano black. The analog air conditioning system is easy to use and efficient. The car has a 5-speed Tiptronic gearbox with DCT and a conventional handbrake. The centre armrest makes the driver’s ride easy and comfortable.

The electronic steering wheel has the necessary control buttons to navigate the 7-inch infotainment system (standard in all variants). With the screen, you can configure your car’s settings, such as DRLs, turn lamps, welcome lamp, auto-door lock, AC ventilation, etc.

Alsvin also has a reverse camera with guiding lines to help the driver safely park the car. Although the power windows are not automatic, the sunroof is. It’s worth mentioning that Alsvin is the only B-segment sedan in Pakistan with a sunroof.

The rear seats are comfortable for three passengers for short travels and two passengers for long journeys. There’s decent head and legroom, child ISOFIX seat anchors, and seat belts at the back.

0-100

In auto mode, Changan Alsvin goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 11 seconds. In manual mode, the car’s 0-100 time is 12:06 seconds.

Price

The base Alsvin 1.3L M/T Comfort variant comes for Rs. 2,489,000. The mid Alsvin 1.5L DCT Comfort variant comes at Rs. 2,744,000. And the top-of-the-line Alsvin 1.5L DCT Lumiere variant costs Rs. 2,939,000.

Final Words on Changan Alsvin

Changan Alsvin is an excellent addition to the club of B-segment sedans of Pakistan. The car has the best features with the lowest price tag. We hope that Changan provides satisfactory after-sales services to its buyers and makes this product a hit in the market.
