Today we present to you the expert review of the Changan Oshan X7 FutureSense. Changan launched the Oshan X7 in January 2022 in 2 variants, adding to the highly competitive crossover market. The main distinction between the 2 variants was the passenger capacity, with the comfort variant being a 7-seater and the high-spec FutureSense variant with 5 seats.

Powertrain

The Oshan X7 is offered in only one engine: a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder turbocharged engine producing 185hp and a whopping 300 Nm of torque. This is the most power from a 1.5 turbo engine in the market. It takes the car from 0 to 100 in under 9 seconds.
Moreover, it is only offered in front-wheel drive. The transmission configured with this engine is a 7-speed DCT which delivers the power very efficiently.

Exterior

The front of the car dominates the exterior look with a rather aggressive design which is majorly occupied by the big front grill, which Changan calls the “Surge Flo Grill” as it resonates with sea waves. It features multi-tear front lights with the DRL and indicator at the top and the main bi-beam projection light at the bottom. The front also features a red trim, standard in all colours, parking sensors, and a radar mounted on the bumper.

Coming to the sides, it gets 19-inch turbine-style alloy rims which are standard in both variants. The red accent can be seen on the sides as well and gives the car a good contrast. Moreover, it has cameras mounted on the side mirrors for 360 views, along with roof rails at the top.

The rear look predominantly depends on the LED continuous tail lights which look very elegant as opposed to the rather aggressive look at the front. It gets a diffuser-style rear bumper with dual exhaust tips, which are not functional, parking sensors, a reverse camera along with a rear wiper.

Interior

The interior of the Oshan X7 is where you really want to be, the layout is very modern, and the design is appealing. The colour tone is a combination of ivory white and black which looks very plush but with the downside of it being prone to getting dirty in the long run.

The interior features leather upholstery all around, a panoramic roof, a digital cluster and infotainment system, and loads of other gadgets. Space is really good in the cabin for front and rear passengers. Being a 5-seater, legroom is not an issue at all, and the large dimensions of the car make the Oshan very roomy and comfortable for passengers to travel in.

Salient Features

The Oshan X7 is packed with many features, and this FutureSense variant also gets some extra tech. Starting with LED lights all around, front 6-way electric seats heated and ventilated, 10.25-inch infotainment which gives access to most of the controls, a multimedia steering, panoramic roof, 4 airbags, 360-degree camera, parking sensors etc. The FutureSense package includes Dynamic Radar cruise control, collision warning, emergency braking, blind spot monitor, smart proximity entry, and exit system, stability control, hill descent and holds, and a few other frills.

Trunk Space

The Oshan’s larger structure makes its trunk very spacious, and the FutureSense variant gets even more space due to the lack of a third row, unlike the Comfort variant. With the seats folded, the Oshan X7 has a trunk capacity of 1407 liters. To put into perspective, this is close to the space we get if we combine the trunks of 3 sedans.

Drive

The 1.5-liter turbo engine delivers impressive power figures, and the acceleration is pretty good compared to other crossovers in the segment. The car is very zippy and the DCT transmission quickly shifts gears. The comfort of the drive is also good, with minimal road noise, sound damping is good, and the Euro 6 engine is very refined. The performance outperforms every other 1.5-liter engine in this segment, be it MG HS, Glory 580, and others.

Suspension And Handling

The suspension is very soft despite the long wheelbase and a 19-inch alloy which is the largest rim size offering in this segment. Speed Bumps and potholes are a breeze to go over, and there are no signs of stiffness which means that the Oshan X7 is good for rough terrains too.

A trade-off for a soft suspension is surely a compromise in handling and road grip on high speeds, but it still handles decently; not the best in class, though. Overall, the suspension is very comfortable for inter-city travel where roads are rough.

Fuel Average

The 7-speed DCT transmission helps the car achieve a very decent fuel average. The company gives 13 km/l within the city and 17 km/l on the highway. However, according to our test, the maximum fuel average it gives within the city is 11km/l, and on the highway, it goes up to 15 km/l, which is not bad at all.

Price

The Oshan X7 was launched at a very attractive price point earlier this year with the Comfort variant being Rs 57,50,000 and the FutureSense variant being Rs 59,50,000. However, currently, the price has jumped up to Rs 70,49,000 for Comfort and Rs75,49,000 for FutureSense.
