In a high-profile incident, Junaid Safdar, the son of Punjab’s Chief Minister, received a traffic fine for violating vehicle regulations in Lahore’s Johar Town.

Junaid Safdar’s car was stopped during a routine traffic check. The traffic warden discovered the vehicle had tinted windows, a violation of local regulations. Additionally, the security vehicle accompanying him received a fine for the same offense. Police authorities confirmed the fines were issued strictly according to procedure, emphasizing that “no one is above the law.”

Following the incident, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz praised the Dolphin Police and local traffic authorities for their unbiased enforcement of the law. “You have upheld the rule of law. I appreciate the Dolphin Police team for ensuring legal compliance,” she stated. She stressed that her administration is committed to ensuring the law applies equally to everyone in Punjab, regardless of their status or political connections.

FIRs Against Underage Drivers

This incident occurs amid heightened efforts by Punjab’s traffic police to reinforce road safety standards. Throughout June, traffic authorities issued over 60,000 fines to individuals across the province for violating basic road safety rules, such as riding motorcycles without helmets and failing to wear seatbelts in cars. Specifically, more than 14,600 fines were issued for seatbelt violations, with penalties totaling around Rs. 120 million. Lahore alone collected Rs. 15 million from helmet-related fines. Authorities stressed these measures aim to protect citizens’ lives rather than simply collect fines, warning that enforcement will become even stricter in the future.

Meanwhile, following several tragic accidents involving minors driving illegally, including a recent fatal crash in Lahore’s Shahdara Town, police announced they will now file First Information Reports (FIRs) against underage drivers. Such legal actions can severely impact young drivers’ future prospects, urging parents and guardians to ensure their children do not drive illegally.

The Punjab government remains firm: Traffic rules are mandatory for all, and safety measures will continue to be strictly enforced across the province.
