Collector’s 175 classic cars destroyed by Texas wildfire
It takes a lot of time for a person to own a car so you can imagine how long it would take to build a collection of 175 classic cars but the loss of these collectible cars which many of us dream to own one day isn’t the biggest, the memories associated with these car will make one cry.
Dust, ash and some metal frames of 175 classic cars are all that remain of one car lover’s collection as the wildfires continue to roar through Texas.
John Chapman, 70, lost a Shelby Cobra, about a dozen Corvettes, several mid-’50s Chevys, a 1947 Studebaker pickup and a 1966 Pontiac GTO in the fire. He and his family escaped unscathed.
John Chapman’s home on about 20 acres was only singed a little bit and had some smoke damage, but the vintage car collector lost about 175 vehicles he kept in a garage or under pole barns. His losses included about a dozen Corvettes and a Shelby Cobra.
As tree stumps still spit flames and the ashes swirls, Chapman pointed towards the melted remains of a 1966 Pontiac GTO, a ’57 Chevrolet pickup and a 1947 Studebaker pickup, and said: “You can either laugh or you can cry. You might as well laugh.”
