Faisalabad has officially joined Lahore and Karachi in the ranks, launching a smart E-Challan system to improve traffic management and road safety. The initiative is spearheaded by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) in partnership with the Faisalabad Safe City Project.
How the System Works
Using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras installed at major intersections, the system detects traffic violations such as:
- Red-light jumping
- Speeding
- Lane violations
Once a violation is recorded, an electronic challan is auto-generated and sent to the vehicle owner’s registered address.
Online Payment and Transparency
Citizens can easily check and pay their e-challans online through the PSCA portal. This shift to digital enforcement ensures greater transparency, efficiency, and convenience.
E-Challan Network Expands in Punjab and Karachi
This rollout in Faisalabad builds on the successful implementation of smart traffic enforcement in other major cities:
- Lahore: Notable drop in repeated violations
- Karachi: Improved fine recovery rates
The e-challan system is also operational in Rawalpindi and Gujranwala, where Safe City surveillance and digital payment platforms are actively enforcing traffic laws. In both cities, ANPR cameras detect violations and issue fines directly to registered vehicle owners, with online payment options available.
Faisalabad’s adoption marks another step toward a province-wide smart traffic network, aiming for safer roads and more efficient urban mobility across Punjab.
What’s Next?
Officials aim to further enhance the system with real-time monitoring and mobile payment integration, offering a complete digital traffic management ecosystem.
