Finally, the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has started issuing new standard number plates. According to an advertisement, the number plates are being issued due to special efforts of Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

Meanwhile, talking to PakWheels, the Excise department official said that online booking of the plates has already started. “If the owner has paid all of his challans and holds complete credentials/documents, then he/she can visit our website and fill a very simple form to get the standard number plate,” he said.

The consumer will get a message about receiving date, time and place once the number plate is ready.
Furthermore, the issuance on experimental basis will start from next week. Meanwhile, the permanent issuance of the plates will start from last week of March. The people who will register first, will get the number plates on priority basis.
All in all, it is a great news for vehicle owners in Punjab because there was a backlog since 2018. The people couldn’t receive new number plates, which was a real hassle.
Then the government started giving only the registration number, and owners got these new white standard plates privately. However, now the government will issue the plates itself.
Universal Number Plates:
Last year in August, the Punjab government announced the launch of universal number plates across the province. According to a notification, the Punjab Excise Taxation and Narcotics Control Department decided to issue number plates with the same serial numbers.
“Vehicles in all Punjab cities will now be registered under one serial from August 17, 2020,” the government said.
The Excise department added that it is ending the plates with LEA, RN, BW, and MA serials, as there will only be ‘Punjab’ number plate in the province.
