The country’s industrial sector is in severe pain in the face of ongoing economic chaos. Pakistan’s local industry is facing the same fate. Import curbs inflicted by the State Bank of Pakistan leading to zero inventory further have aggravated the production process of vehicles and sale charts.
The whole scenario is individually hurting the best sellers. Decreasing Pakistan Suzuki and Honda Atlas sales brought a decline of 52% in monthly car sales last month.
Even the popular cars among local customers, including Suzuki Alto, Wagon R, Swift, Toyota Corolla, Hilux, Honda City, and Civic, etc., couldn’t are unable to attract buyers.
The Best Sellers
Despite all this sorry sight, there are still three cars valued above Rs. 1 crore that performed well in terms of sales in April’23. As per the recent Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), surprisingly enough, Fortuner, Hilux, and Sonata came as the best sellers last month. Mind you, these are all luxury cars with high price tags.
PAMA report posted that Toyota Pakistan sold 941 units of Hilux and Fortuner combined. Whereas Hyundai Nishat sold 155 vehicles of Sonata. Coming to the prices of these cars, Fortuner prices start from Rs. 1.58 crore and go up to Rs. 2.11 crore. Whilst Hilux and Sonata prices are up to Rs. 1.61 crore and Rs. 1.13, respectively.
What PAMA Report says?
As per Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), car sales plunged by 85% year-on-year (YoY), selling 2,844 units in April’23 compared to 18,626 vehicles sold in the corresponding period of last year.
Similarly, month-on-month sales witnessed a similar trend – decreased by 52% sold 4,463 last month vehicles against 9,351 cars in March. The reason behind this nosedive is the poor sales of Pakistan Suzuki and Honda Atlas last month.
