Islamabad: The federal government has allocated Rs. 9 billion under the Pakistan Accelerated Vehicle Electrification (PAVE) scheme for the current fiscal year to promote electric mobility across the country.

Under the scheme, the government plans to subsidize the purchase of around 116,000 electric bikes and 3,000 electric rickshaws and loaders, making EVs more accessible to the public.

The policy was unveiled by the Minister for Industries and Production, who stated its importance in reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting environmentally friendly mobility solutions.

To support the growing EV ecosystem, the government is also introducing a nationwide regulatory and operational framework, backed by Viability Gap Funding (VGF). The plan includes the establishment of 3,000 EV charging stations across the country by 2030.

This investment falls under Pakistan’s new New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Policy 2025–30, which aims to reduce dependence on imported fuel, cut emissions, and support local manufacturing of electric vehicles and components.
