Green Line Buses Are Now Operating in Karachi

Rejoice o’ Karachiites, your first modern and comfortable public transport is finally at your service! The Green Line buses are operating for four hours, from 8 AM to 12 PM

PM Imran Khan inaugurated the much-awaited Green Line Bus System in Karachi two weeks ago The buses have finally gone operational for public transport on Quaid-e-Azam’s birthday, the 25th of December. 

  • 80 diesel hybrid buses
  • Capacity of 135,000 passengers
  • 22 stations (11 active)
  • 21 kilometres long track
  • From Abdullah Chowk to Numaish

Here’s your first look at the Green Line buses in Karachi. 

Green Line Project

To recap, the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project was initiated by the former government of Pakistan. Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif performed the groundbreaking ceremony in 2016. The project went back and forth for a few years due to bureaucratic and operational delays. The new government took over the project and has finally made it happen.

The green line buses will become fully operational from the 10th of January. Currently, the buses are taking passengers to 11 stations.

Green Line bus service works just like the Metro bus service in Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar. Passengers can buy a ticket from any station and comfortably travel from one point to another. The Green Line buses have an extra feature of charging points for passengers to charge their phones

The Green Line bus system is the first phase of revolutionizing public transport in Karachi. Sources say that the government of Sindh will extend this project to red, yellow, orange, blue, and purple buses to cover 146 kilometres in Karachi. Sounds like a dream, doesn’t it?     It was about time, but they should bought Mercedes or Setra , or Vanhool bus.
