Punjab, especially Lahore, is suffering from smog and air pollution. Authorities are doing their best to smoothen out the traffic flow in the province. After putting a ban on Euro-2 fuel and imposing an Rs. 2,000 fine on one-way traffic rule violations, Punjab Transport Company (PTC) is now conducting another anti-smog campaign: penalizing heavy smoke-emitting vehicles.
So far, the PTC Enforcement Wing has taken action against a total of 9,747 public transport vehicles for violating environmental protection laws.
2005 vehicles have been seized and taken to a nearby police station. 19,38 vehicles have been issued warnings.
The authorities have imposed fines of Rs. 2.19 million on the violating drivers.
Air Quality of Lahore
The smog crisis is taking Lahore in its tight grip with each coming day. For the past few weeks, Lahore’s atmosphere has been ‘very unhealthy’, and it will continue to get worse in the coming months.
Sahiwal, Faisalabad, and Raiwind are the other cities most affected by air pollution. But Lahore has even become the most polluted city in the world.
Punjab Govt’s Action Plan
To fight the air pollution in Lahore, the Punjab government will leave no stone unturned to ensure everyone follows the anti-air pollution SOPs. Here’s what authorities are doing to succeed in this mission.
- Closure of factories running without scrubbers
- Closure of obsolete brick kilns
- Strict action against industrial units burning tyre, rubber, and plastic
- Strict action against the burning of crop residue and garbage
- Seizure of vehicles causing environmental pollution in the city
- Installation of smoke controlling devices on all vehicles
- Ban on the sales of poor quality fuel
- Strict action against careless and illegal parking
- Strict actions against underage drivers
- Strict check on driving license
- Strict action against creating barriers on footpaths
- Daily anti-encroachment operations in the city
The Punjab authorities are doing their best to minimize air pollution and make roads safe for everyone. We are obliged to play our part and help them in this mission. Please use good quality fuel in your vehicles and follow the traffic rules and SOPs. Peace out!
I read a rather interesting new yesterday, according to european news, Lahore is the most polluted city in the world today, especially Lahore air, it’s been a years euro 5 fuel come in Pakistan, it should be use everywhere in Pakistan, euro 5 fuel is emetting fare less gas, espicially microparticules like Carbon dioxid, carbon monoxide (dangerous for the health), nitrous oxide …
Lahore isn’t fully provided with euro 5 fuel this is unacceptable, we are toalking about the second biggest city of the country and the cultural capital of the country. At least all the biggest city should prvide euro 5 fuel.
