Here are Expected Increase in Fuel Prices in Pakistan

The fuel prices have always been important in Pakistan, however,  they are critically vital for last few months. The country is facing tough economic conditions amid rapid devaluation of PKR against the US dollar, directly linked to the petroleum prices. At the end of the last month, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar announced a petrol price hike of Rs. 35 per liter due to the extreme devaluation of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar.

In his announcement regarding the petrol price hike, Ishaq Dar also said that the prices of kerosene oil and light diesel oil had been increased by Rs. 18.

Expected Fuel Price Hike

Now, there are reports that the fuel prices will go up once again in the coming days. As per our sources, the government will jack up the per liter rates as follow:

  • Petrol     Rs. 21.71/liter
  • High-Speed Diesel     Rs. 6.85/liter
  • Kerosene oil     Rs. 17.60/liter

If the sources are right, then it is quite significant jump especially in price of petrol. And this will further burden the already inflation-hit masses. Meanwhile, the reports are emerging that the petrol pumps in a number of cities in Punjab have stopped the sales. The stated that most of the petrol pumps are closed in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sargodha. Moreover, a few petrol pumps are open in Shakargarh, Khushab, Gojra, Mandi Bahauddin providing Rs. 200 worth of petrol to motorcyclists and other vehicles are provided with not more then Rs. 500 worth of fuel.

Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association’s secretary, information Khawaja Atif revealed, “In Lahore, around 70 of the total 450 pumps are dry. The areas where the pumps are closed due to shortage of petrol include Shahdra, Wagah, Litton Road, and Jain Mandar”.
