Under the “Do Not Drive” Advisory, Honda and Acura issued a statement recalling 8,200 older vehicles of 2001-3 carrying faulty Takata airbags. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the United States urged the owners of cars to replace airbag inflators that can explode during accidents or crashes.

It is pertinent to mention that airbag inflators subjected to high humidity and heat can erupt in the driver’s or passenger’s face. Meanwhile, metal fragments shot as projectiles can cause serious injuries or even prove fatal.

As per the media reports, Honda previously replaced the inflators, but records have revealed that there a number of owners who have not made repairs in their older cars. Here, affected vehicles include 2001 and 2002 Honda Accord and Civic, the 2002 Honda CR-V and Odyssey SUVs, the 2003 Honda Pilot, the 2002 and 2003 Acura 3.2 TL and the 2003 Acura 3.2 CL. The company is offering free repair, even towing.

Authority officials stated, “These inflators are two decades old now, and they pose a 50% chance of rupturing in even a minor crash, don’t gamble with your life or the life of someone you love – schedule your free repair today before it’s too late.”

The company has informed that owners of these vehicles has reached out via emails, mailed notices, phone calls and even home visits.
