Intra-city Transporters Announce Strike

Head of the Transport Association Rana Latif announced a countrywide strike by the intra-city transport service owners. The association has cited hiked taxes and registration fees as major reasons behind the strike.

The Head of the Transport Association said that the government has raised the Capital Value Tax (CVT) from one percent to two percent. This has consequently increased the expenses of the transport service owners. This apparently small hike has actually taken the taxes from Rs. 300 to Rs. 4,000 and Rs. 8,000, which is a huge margin. The owners claim that such a huge raise has made it impossible for them to continue their operations. During this time of inflation, it has become harder for the transporters to manage expenses and generate profits.

Rana Latif warned that the strike would continue if the government did not abolish these taxes or take other compensatory measures. Originally, the call for the strike had originated from Punjab and Sindh. But later the President of the Transporters Association, Khan Zaman Afridi, also joined the strike. Due to his participation, Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KPK) also followed suit.

This strike will affect the intra-city transport service all over the country and will cause major issues for citizens planning to commute on public transport.

Do you think there is any chance the government will reduce these taxes? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section below!
