Sri Lankan former cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya has shared a rather interesting picture on his social media. As per his post, he still owns the car he got in the 1996 World Cup as Man of the Series. It is pertinent to mention that Sri Lanka won the World Cup defeating Australia at Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore. Sharing the update, the left-handed batsman wrote: “Golden memories: 27 years for the 1996 World Cup Man of the series Car.”

This shows how important that tournament was for the hard hitter as he still keeps the machine as a memory.

Which Car is This?

The car owned by Jayasuriya is Audi A4 first-generation 1995 model. The car was manufactured on the Volkswagen Group B5 platform and came in engine options ranging from 1.6 to 2.8 liters. Based on the Porsche unit, the company also debuted the new Triptronic automatic transmission on this B5 platform.

Furthermore, the 1.6 and 2.8L engines were for petrol engines, while a 1.9L diesel engine was installed for the car, with 89 horsepower. The car did face initial mechanical problems, but the experts and consumers alike praised the overall build and assembly quality. The manufacturer of this car, Volkswagen, declared B5 the company-wide build quality benchmark for all of its other models.
