The traffic police in the city have tightened the noose against different traffic violations, including one-way and driving without license. The police have hiked the fines and challans over these violations to ensure the smooth flow of the traffic while reducing the chances of accidents. Through these multiple steps, the traffic police is looking to streamline the traffic through technology and cooperation of the citizens.
Breathing Test in Lahore
Earlier this week, police installed speed guns and started using breathalyzers to catch drunk drivers. “Driving under the influence leads to overspeeding and accidents,” Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Dr. Assad Malhi, told the media. The officer further said.
The police will conduct the test on the spot through a digital alcohol tester. If caught, legal proceedings against the driver will be initiated under Motor Vehicle Ordinance. The culprit could face up to 6 months of jail time along with the fine. “The new initiative has been launched at major roads of Lahore, i.e., Mall, Jail, and Canal Road.
In its message on social media, the traffic police stated that driving under the influence is like calling for a road accident. “Be a responsible citizen and don’t drive under the influence,” the police appealed.
