Lahore City Traffic Police have launched a new and technological method to monitor the traffic. As per details, the force will now monitor the traffic through drones. In the first phase, the police is going to launch it on experimental grounds.

Initially, the police will monitor the traffic on Mall Road, Jail Road, Canal Road and Ferozepur Road. Talking to media, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Muntazir Mehdi said we will watch vehicles causing pollution and violating the traffic rules. Yesterday, he observed the drone monitoring of a protest on Mall Road.

The police will also monitor rallies, mega events, protests and other important programs on the roads. “We will also keep a check on illegal parking stands, wrong parking and encroachments through drones,” Mehdi said.

He said that the data would be shared with the relevant authorities so that such issues can be resolved on emergency grounds. To make it complete operational, CTO has established Drone Monitoring and Surveillance Unit. The officer said that after a successful experimental phase, we will expand this project to other important roads of the city.

“We are trying our best to facilitate the citizens through smart policing,” Mehdi asserted.

Wrong Parking Fine Increased

Last week, to tackle the issue of wrong parking, Lahore City Traffic Police increased the fine by 900%. According to a notification, the police will now impose a fine of Rs. 2,000 compared to previous Rs. 200.

CTO also ordered the police to take action against illegal parking stands in the city. “Wrong parking and illegal parking stands have become a primary reason for traffic jams in Lahore, which is a serious issue for the masses,” Mehdi stated.

“Police will ensure smooth traffic through stern action,” he said.
