Today we’re back with the owner’s review of a 2021 MG ZS EV. MG launched its fully electric crossover in 2020 in Pakistan in the form of CBU units. It comes with a 44.5 kWh water-cooled lithium-ion battery pumping out close to 140 hp and 353 nm of torque, delivered to the front wheels. Contrary to the overwhelming reception of the HS, the ZS’s demand never caught pace despite being the first fully electric vehicle in the market. However, lately, the price of ZS in the used market has had a sudden upward spike; let’s find out why.

Purchase Decision

The owner was previously driving the HS PHEV and was very impressed by it. He then decided to shift from a plug-in hybrid to a fully electric car, and with his satisfactory experience with MG, he opted to buy the ZS EV. He bought a second-hand ZS from Pakwheels, where he got a good deal at Rs. 7 million. According to him, the price has now gone above Rs. 8 million due to the rising fuel prices.

Range

Coming to the range, which is the main asset of an EV, the owner thinks that it is very good. The company claims that it will do over 300 kilometers on a single charge, while as per the owner, it depends purely on the driving style. If driven with a light foot within the city, it can even go up to 280 to 290 kilometers which is close to what the company claims. However, a more realistic range is around 240 to 250 kilometers which the car achieves regularly.

Charging Time And Cost

According to the owner, it takes the ZS 30 to 40 mins to charge on commercial chargers at petrol pumps. It takes up 40 units of electricity which costs 4,000 rupees if charged commercially while the price comes down to 2,000 if charged at home. What’s impressive is that it has its own fast charger, which can be installed at home, enabling the car to charge in 3 hours. The owner hired an electrician to install a proper charging socket for his car, which included earthing and stabilisers preventing it from malfunctioning while charging.

Features

The ZS EV comes equipped with a decent amount of features which include a panoramic roof, push start, multimedia steering, leather seats, 17-inch machine-cut alloys, an 8-inch infotainment system, etc. more features include regenerative braking named KERS ( Kinetic Energy Recovery System ) for which the intensity can be adjusted along with six airbags.

Maintenance And Parts

Being an EV, it is maintenance-free, which means no fluids or filters are needed. The only things that require replacement are tyres, while the brake pads also last longer than gasoline cars. Parts are not a problem due to the development of MG dealerships in every main city, but prices are high.
