In another effort to reduce injuries and loss of lives in road accidents, Lahore City Traffic Police have banned the entry of bikers without helmet on five major roads in Lahore. According to media reports, the new initiative is taken by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Mustansar Feroze to enhance road safety measures. The crackdown against traffic rules violators has been going on for the last two-and-a-half months, but today, the police have taken stricter steps to ensure road safety.
No Helmet, No Entry Policy
Under the new directives from the CTO, bikers without helmets would not be able to enter these five major roads of the city:
- Canal Road
- Ferozepur Road
- Jail Road
- Mall Road
- Main Boulevard Gulberg
The police will not only impose heavy fines on bikers without helmets but also impose a ban on their entry on these roads. “The purpose of this crackdown and campaign is to make sure people wear helmets so that the deaths due to head injuries can be curbed,” the CTO told media.
According to a report, during these two-and-a-half months, traffic police have fined around 10 lacs people due to traffic violations. From today onwards, the police will impound the bike of the violator. The police have requested the government to increase fines for not wearing helmet.
