Pakistan Railways has announced a series of reforms aimed at improving facilities and ensuring safer travel for passengers, with a special focus on women and persons with disabilities. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi at the Ministry of Railways.
The minister announced that gender-sensitive protocols will soon be implemented at railway stations and on trains to ensure women passengers have a safe, respectful, and comfortable travel environment.
To implement these measures, awareness posters will be displayed at stations and on trains, while regular announcements and awareness messages will be broadcast. In addition, railway employees will undergo gender-sensitization and specialized training, supported by a broader awareness campaign highlighting women’s safety.
The meeting also approved new facilities for passengers with disabilities. All refurbished trains will feature dedicated seating for individuals with special needs, and wheelchairs will be available at major stations to facilitate their travel with ease and dignity.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Abbasi said that Pakistan Railways values all its passengers and these initiatives reflect the organization’s commitment to building a modern, inclusive, and passenger-friendly railway system.
