Paperless Driving License Makes an Entry in Punjab
In a major step towards the digital future, the Government of Punjab has introduced a paperless driving license issuing system. This system has been introduced in Pakistan for the very first time. The commendable step by the ruling party is expected to change the whole system positively.
According to media reports, Rawalpindi Police is launching this system in collaboration with Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). Through this very efficient system, a consumer can get the driving license without any physical documentation, except for computerized CNIC. Furthermore, license renewal will be also be conducted through an automated system¸ in a rather quick and effective way.
Under this system, the applicant has to submit its National Identity Card and registration fee, which is also not much high.
The launch of this new system is undoubtedly a blessing for new and old drivers, majorly due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The new setup will ensure complete social distancing. Through this digital system, the police department can issue licenses without much hassle and rush at the offices.
Concession in Budget:
Earlier, the provincial government offers concession on Vehicle Motor Tax under Budget FY2020-21. The government said consumers could avail a 20% rebate by paying their total tax before August 31, 2020. The provincial government also said that if any consumer failed to pay his tax before the deadline, he would not be fined, if file his taxed during the current fiscal year.
Furthermore, Punjab offered a 5% discount on taxes if the consumer will pay them through the e-system.
The provincial government has also added ride-hailing apps under the Sales Tax net through the new budget. Previously, these apps were giving a 16% tax under the rent-a-car services category. However, now they have to pay only a 4% tax under the Punjab Sales Act on Services of 2012.
