The current era is the era of crossover SUVs. Since 2018 Pakistan has received a number of crossovers from various brands across different size segments, but because of the current economic conditions, rising prices and numerous options to choose from, deciding which SUV to buy is not an easy decision any more. Hence, to help you make that decision, we set out in search to find the perfect B-SUV for you in terms of price and specifications. The first one is Pakistan’s first locally assembled European car, the Peugeot 2008, while the second is the Honda HR-V.
Through rigorous testing and analysis, we have put together a review of both the 2008 and the HR-V to see who stands at the top.
Price
If we compare prices, both 2008 variants currently cost lower than the HRV variants; the 2008 Active costs Rs. 6,840,000 making it the most appealing option in terms of price – currently with a gap of over PKR. 1 million between it and the entry level HRV VTI – whereas the Allure is priced at Rs. 7,580,000. In comparison, HRV VTi has a price tag of Rs. 7,899,000, while HR-V VTi-S costs Rs. 8,199,000.
Exterior Design
Coming to the design aspect, the Peugeot 2008 dons a unique and stylish exterior design. The car has an aggressive exterior front look characterized by their signature three claw headlights in the allure variant, LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and a unique front grille. In contrast, the Honda HR-V has a sleek exterior design with a fast back type side profile. Key features common in most recently launched SUVs are the panoramic roof and roof rails; Peugeot offers both in its top Allure variant, whereas they are absent in the 20008 active and both variants of the HRV. Furthermore, both variants of Peugeot 2008 come with chrome door handles, which are not offered in the HR-V.
Performance
If performance of all variants are evaluated, one will find that both 2008 variants share the same engine and although their engine is smaller in displacement, it still produces more horsepower and torque due to Its 1.2L Turbocharged engine that generates 123 hp and 230 Nm of torque which is higher than the common 1.5L engine of the HRV variants, which produce 119 hp and 145 Nm of torque. In terms of fuel efficiency, the 2008 also boasts a better mileage compared to its competitor.
In terms of drive modes, the 2008 offers three (Eco/Normal/sport) compared to the HR-V, which offers two (Eco/Normal).
Interior
In terms of design, both cars offer a spacious interior designed to offer comfort and convenience for both driver and passenger. The interior design of the 2008 is as dynamic as its exterior. The first noticeable feature in both 2008’s variants is the signature Peugeot I cockpit, that has a compact steering wheel, a 7” infotainment, unique piano toggle switches and a 10” cluster display; the active variant is equipped with a 10” quartz display and the allure with a 3D display. In comparison, the Honda HRV also has a modern and stylish interior. The dashboard is sleek and uses premium materials with a large infotainment in the center. If compared, the HRV has a smaller 4.2 digital display.
Moreover, the extra features in 2008 Allure are ambient lighting in the door which gives the car a luxe feel. Lastly, both variants of 2008 come with leather stitched gear knob, which are not offered in HRV.
Comfort and Convenience
Both cars offer various features related to comfort and convenience. The 2008 offers features such as cruise control in the 2008 Allure whereas the HR-V doesn’t offer it in any of its variants. The Allure also offers a 180-degree camera along with rear camera and sensors. Also, both 2008’s offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, tyre pressure monitoring and rain sensors, features which are not available in the HRV.
Safety
This Europe-origin crossover is loaded with advanced safety features. What stands out most is the inclusion of ADAS (Advanced driver assistance systems) features in the 2008 Allure, such as lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, driver attention alert and high beam assist; in comparison, neither variant of the HRV offers ADAS. The Allure also offers 6 air bags compared to only 4 in both HRV’s variants. Both variants of the 2008 also come with TPMS (Tire pressure monitoring System)
Aftersales
Peugeot Pakistan offers a longer service interval of 10,000 kilometers or 6 months, in comparison, Honda which offers a service interval of 5,000 kilometers.
Conclusion
After conducting a comprehensive review of both B-segment crossover SUVs in Pakistan, we found that the Peugeot 2008 offers a competitive range of features and specifications at a favorable price point when compared to the Honda HRV.
While we acknowledge that the Peugeot 2008 Active variant provides the best value for money, we encourage potential buyers to assess their options carefully and make a decision based on their individual preferences and budget.
