In a major step toward modernizing urban mobility, the Punjab government has greenlit a Rs. 871 million Command & Control Centre for the Lahore Ring Road. The high-tech facility will use AI-driven surveillance, radar-based detection, and real-time analytics to manage traffic flow and enhance commuter safety.
Project Overview
AI-Driven Monitoring to Tackle Traffic Violations set to be operational by early 2026, the Centre will feature:
- High-resolution CCTV and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR)

- Radar-based speed detection systems

- AI-enabled violation tracking for wrong-way driving, lane changes, and phone usage

- Integration with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) and Lahore Traffic Police

The system is designed to monitor over 150,000 vehicles daily on the Ring Road, ensuring swift enforcement and accident response.
What’s Inside the Rs. 871 Million Facility?
The Command & Control Centre will house:
- 42 large display screens and 20 analytical monitors for 24/7 operations

- Real-time data visualization and digital reporting dashboards

- Central coordination for law enforcement and traffic personnel

The initiative is being executed under the Punjab Ring Road Authority (PRRA), with oversight from the Human Resources Department to ensure skilled staffing and operational efficiency.
Leadership and Implementation
The approval was finalized in a high-level meeting chaired by Minister for Works and Communications Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharath. Senior officials, including Secretary C&W Sohail Ashraf and PRRA Chairman Faisal Farid, are supervising implementation. Construction is expected to finish within four months.
Lahore as a Smart Mobility Benchmark
This will be Punjab’s first AI-integrated traffic hub, setting a precedent for similar smart road projects in other cities. Comparable to initiatives in Islamabad’s Safe City project, the Lahore centre emphasizes data-led governance, public safety, and law enforcement coordination.
