Punjab To Introduce New System To fight bogus Car Transfers

In an endeavor to Prevent Car Transfers and Token Tax Fraud, Punjab Excise & Taxation comes has come up with a new system. Details have revealed that a newly-introduced two-way security mechanism would avert excise employees from misusing passwords.

As per the system, the owner will receive an SMS for token tax payment or car transfer. Simply put, the owner SMS would be informed of token tax payment or vehicle transfer via SMS. The owner will notify the excise department in case of any fake transfer or transaction.

One time password will be allotted to the user to start the system. Excise department officials stated that password no one can use the password without an OTP number.

Authorities further informed that every year thousands of vehicles are transferred without mentioning any owner. Fake transfer cases are hindered after the biometric system is introduced; new system will decrease them further. The system will be launched in the province in two weeks.

LAST DAY for Punjab Biometric Car Transfer

In the newspaper advertisement, Punjab Excise Department announced that today is the last day for 2-month-long relaxation in biometric car transfer hardship cases. The ad informed that “This offer is only for car seller’s biometric; the buyer’s biometric is essential.”

Under the hardship cases, the new car buyer will submit a statement to Motor Registration Authority (MRA) in the Excise department. Along with the statement, the buyer will also submit the original file of the car, book, and vehicle itself. After completing the legal process and investigation, MRA will transfer the car only after the submission of the new buyer’s biometric. The transfer, in other cases, will remain the same under the current process.
