The wave of car price increases seems to be out of control as rates of new cars have gone out of reach of the common person. One look at these prices can give you a heart attack because they are so high that they look unreal. The car companies have blamed COVID-19, record-high freight rates, and very expensive raw materials. Meanwhile, the rapid devaluation of the Pakistan rupee against the US dollar has been identified as the main reason for the fresh price hikes.
In the last couple of days, Pak Suzuki and Changan Master Motors increased prices, and after these revisions, a hatchback has become more expensive than a sedan.
Suzuki Swift Vs Changan Alsvin
If you look at the new rates, the price of Suzuki Swift GLX CVT (top-of-the-line variant) now costs more than Changan Alsvin Lumiere, which is also a top-of-the-line variant of the car. As mentioned earlier, Swift is a B-segment hatchback – no surprise there – meanwhile, Alsvin is a B-segment sedan.
Here are the revised prices of these two cars:
- Suzuki Swift GXL CVT – Rs. 3,959,000
- Changan Alsvin Lumiere – Rs. 3,844,000
There is a difference of Rs. 115,000. Isn’t it just shocking? The more alarming aspect of this whole issue is that there seems to be no respite for consumers in the near future; prices wise. If the current economic and political situation sustained, there are pretty high chances that prices will go up in the coming days.
It is also pertinent to mention that Suzuki Swift was launched for Rs. 2,899,000 on February 25, 2022. It means, in only five months, the price of this car has been increased by a huge Rs. 1,060,000. Again, isn’t it just shocking???
