System Upgrade – Punjab Car Registration Will Remain Suspend
The winds of change are blowing in Punjab excise department motor as it prepares to enhance nearly two decades (18 years) old car registration system. In a bid to make the transition possible, the decision has been made to temporarily close all motor branches across the province from September 6th to September (2:00 pm) to 11th (9:00 am), 2023.
Upgrading Decades Old System
The Excise and Taxation Department of Punjab initially launched its computerized system back in 2005, and over the years, it has accumulated data for more than 2.3 million vehicles. However, as the existing system struggled to handle the immense load of vehicle data and transactions, the department has been planning for a significant upgrade for the past year. Technical assistance for this upgrade is being provided by the Punjab IT Board, the department’s technical partner.
Now, the department is gearing up to launch the new system within the coming week. During this transition period, motor branches and related services, including e-payment, e-action, and vehicle information, will remain closed from Thursday to Saturday.

The Improvements
The introduction of the new system promises several improvements. Firstly, it will enhance data security and resolve the persistent issues that plagued the current system. With the new system, the process of introducing any changes will become more straightforward, and users will be able to navigate it more smoothly and securely.
The department’s spokesperson has requested cooperation from vehicle owners across Punjab during this transition period. They have also expressed their willingness to accommodate any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of services. This proactive approach is meant to ensure a seamless transition and minimize disruptions for the public.
This move towards modernizing the motor vehicle registration and information system is a significant step forward for Punjab’s Excise and Taxation Department. It will not only address existing challenges but also sets the stage for a more efficient and secure future.
As September 11th approaches, anticipation builds for the launch of this new system. Punjab’s residents can look forward to a more advanced and user-friendly experience when dealing with vehicle-related matters, all thanks to the province’s commitment to embracing technological advancements in public service.
