The Punjab government has announced new measures to tackle the issue of smog. According to media reports, the government has announced new heavy fines on smoke-emitting cars across the province. Under the court’s order, Punjab Transport and Masstransit Department has ordered the Deputy Commissioners to take strict steps to counter the menace. “After public transport, heavy fines will also be imposed on private cars,” the department said in a statement, adding that the government has given a seven-day deadline to the car owners to resolve the issue of smoke.
Furthermore, the government has requested that people call 15 with extension no. 6 to inform them about the faulty cars. Meanwhile, smoke-emitting buses, rickshaws, and trucks will be banned in Lahore.
Fines on Private Cars
The media reports further stated that a Rs. 2,000 fine would be imposed for smoke-emitting private cars for the first time and Rs. 4,000 for the second violation. Meanwhile, public transport, including buses and vans, will stay parked at the bus stands until they are completely repaired,” the Transport Department announced.
It is essential to mention that Lahore has topped the AQI rating of air pollution due to smog, causing respiratory, visibility, and eye-itching issues among the citizens. According to an official report, the pollution caused by vehicles is the primary reason for smog in Punjab, especially in Lahore. The city has been facing this problem for several years now, starting at the start of winter. As per Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the government is doing everything to control it, but it will take time as it is a decade-long problem.
Some media reports suggested that the government is planning to use artificial rain to resolve it, as rain is the only natural solution.

If they really want to improve our air quality, first they must supply only euro 5 fuel all over the country
Second they need to enforce a periodic inspection of car (i don’t know if it exist in the country), it will not only ensure the good condition of the car, but as well to know if the car is overpolluting or not
