Tesla is all set to start the shipment of its Model 3S performance variant which features a dual-motor drivetrain. CEO of Tesla Elon Musk has decided to share the performance specifications and pricing of the highly-awaited option. The Tesla Model 3 Performance variant is the best performance you can get in all of the options that accompany Tesla Model 3. The performance variant will feature 20-inch wheels, a carbon fiber spoiler, a uniquely optimized dual motor configuration, and black and white interior. The performance variant of the Tesla Model 3 costs $78,000 without the AutoPilot feature.

Elon Musk compared the performance of the Performance variant of Model 3 with the performance of BMW’s flagship car M3. Both models cost about the same (BMW M3 base model costs $66,000), but according to the CEO of Tesla, the Model 3 Performance variant is about 15 percent better than the BMW M3. Elon Musk announced recently that the Model 3 Performance variant has a 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds, its top speed is 155 miles per hour, and the electric vehicle can drive 310 miles at full charge. To sum it all up, Tesla has fulfilled its promise about the Model 3 Performance variant that it will beat anything in its class.

However, Tesla is also offering an option for current Tesla Model 3 owners to simply pay $5,000 to only add the second motor in their current 2WD variant to turn it into an AWD electric car. Although you won’t be getting all of the upgrades and the performance will not exactly match a native Performance variant, but still, it will be a noticeable upgrade in performance and reliability. According to the CEO, adding the second motor will decrease the 0-60 time of the Tesla Model 3 2WD option from ~5.3 seconds to a flat 4.5 seconds and increase the top speed of the vehicle from 130 miles per hour to 140. The driving range at full charge will be 310.

Elon Musk has also explained that the dual-motor setup also increases reliability as either of the working motors will take charge in case the other motor breaks. Another mentionable information Elon Musk delivered via a tweet is that the dual-motor setup is set up in a way that one motor is optimized to produce high-power while the other motor is configured to yield range.

Even with all the trouble the American company has been going through lately, it appears the Elon Musk is on a mission to get people what they desire.
