Tesla Rival to launch a $40K Electric SUV
You may or may not have heard the name Fisker Automotive before; this is primarily due to the fact that, despite being herald by industry experts as an early rival to now electric vehicles giant, Tesla, Fisker Automotive declared bankruptcy in November 2013.
Previously (in 2012), Fisker Karma a $100K worth electric luxury sports sedan, attracted high-profile celebrity names like Leonardo DiCaprio and Ashton Kutcher. However, regardless of its success with such celebrity names, the concerned company went under within a year of its release, which further resulted in the liquidation of the company’s remaining assets to a China-based auto parts manufacturer.
Now, once again, Fisker Automotive replaced with Fisker Inc. led by Henrik Fisker (former BMW designer) aims to revolutionize the mobility industry with their electric vehicles and their latest bet for achieving this goal is by introducing a sophisticated yet an affordable EV.
To be more precise, in a press release, with images of their latest Marvel, the company announced that they plan to release an SUV with a price tag of no more than $40,000 while offering greater advantages to the consumers than its rivals. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that, this decision came after a recent event, in which Tesla announced that they would be unveiling an affordable Model Y electric SUV in 2020 for their consumers with a starting price tag of $39K as well as a $35K model 3.
Some of the added advantages, Fisker intend to provide in its SUV are:
- 80kWh battery with a 300-mile range
- A radar on the grill
- Feasibility of an “extended open-air atmosphere” with a button touch
Meanwhile, optional features will include an all wheel drive and dual motors.
In an official statement, regarding the announcement Henry Fisker said, “Our team set out on a mission to create an affordable EV that’s more exciting and emotion-stirring than what the market has been offering”, and in another statement, “We, re now excited to be introducing a vehicle that truly reinvents the SUV”.
It seems like the company has learned a valuable lesson with their earlier ordeal, as unlike before, this time in an attempt to successfully reconstruct themselves, the executives have opted for a Tesla-like approach, in which rather than selling their vehicles via a dealer, they will sell to the consumers directly.
In addition to this, the company officials have also pushed back the release of their $120K+ luxury vehicle (announced in the previous year) until the release of their latest $40 SUV.
If you are interested in what this company has to offer, then, unfortunately, just like the others, you will have to wait for a while. According to Fisker, for a drivable prototype of the SUV, potential consumers and car enthusiasts will have to wait till later this year so that the production process will take some time. Presently, they seem to be finalizing a production facility; the company officials said, “currently finalizing the selection of a facility, located in the United States, to produce the all-electric SUV.”
Nonetheless, the newly resurrected Fisker Inc. is only one of the many refreshing companies testing their wits in the persistently growing electric vehicles space with their latest innovations, and hence, it would be most exciting to see what kind of EVs will be introduced next in the upcoming weeks.
