Toyota Plans to Discontinue Passo Soon
Japanese Domestic Market cars carry a special place among Pakistani hatchback lovers, and the reason for this love is the smoothness, reliability, and build quality of these small cars. The dwindling economic situation has urged the incumbent government to impose restrictions on car imports. Despite these curbs, our local consumers preferred to import cars from Japan.
Toyota Passo, also dubbed as Daihatsu Boon; a hatchback, falls among these JDM cars. It competes with the likes of Suzuki Swift and other cars in the same segment. The company has decided to stop selling Pakistani’s beloved hatchback in Japan in the face of a decline recorded in its sales.
As per the reports, Toyota dealers in Japan informed that Passo would no longer be available for sale once a limited number of units were sold out. Moreover, Toyota is all set to say Goodbye to Camry after 43 years. And again, the reason is shrinking sales charts. Toyota sold only 6,000 Camry last year in its domestic market.
Toyota Is Retiring Camry After 43 Years
Toyota is sadly bidding goodbye to one of its star models, the Camry, in Japan after 43 years. The main reason behind discontinuing the Camry is its low sales. In 2022, Toyota was able to sell only 6,000 units of the car in Japan.
According to a report by Nikkei Asia, most of the dealerships in Japan have stopped taking bookings for Toyota Camry altogether. The current price of this car is equivalent to Rs. 7.6 and Rs. 10.2 million in its home market.
These low sales numbers have forced the company to stop the sales as well as the production of the car in Japan. Even though its production and sales will come to a halt in its home market, Toyota plans to sell the model to the international market.
This Toyota model is manufactured in the United States, China, and Thailand and will continue to be manufactured in Japan as well for exporting to other countries.
