Types of Cars You Should Not Buy (Pakistan Edition)

The Pakistani car market is relatively different from the rest of the world, mainly due to low buying power and a low economy. That’s why if something is going well in the international market, it doesn’t mean it will work the same way in the Pakistani market.

We’re here again. This time, we’ll tell you the type of cars you should never buy in Pakistan unless you want to waste your money.

An Old Range Rover

Don’t know about you, but your mechanic is surely going to be rich after you buy an old Range Rover. Also, there’s a popular saying for RR’s:

“If you want to take revenge on your enemy, get him a Range Rover.”

If you search Google “most unreliable car brands,” you’ll see Range Rovers in every blog’s list. The problem is not with their built quality; it’s just the way RRs are designed. These cars are meant to be luxurious; reliability is not on the checklist of these SUVs during the design process, like in the Toyota or Honda.

These SUVs have so many complicated electrical components, including multiple sensors, modules, and control units, and more complex components are more prone to failure. That’s the easiest definition to explain why RRs are so unreliable.

Not just that, their air suspensions, transmissions, and engines are designed for smooth and luxurious ride quality. However, due to that design, they often wear out and breakdown, especially on the roads of Pakistan, where even Toyota’s suspensions suffer, so RRs don’t stand a chance.

If you decide to get them repaired, note that these are luxury British cars, and you will be importing the spares from Britain in GBP currency. Your bank probably would not like it.

Overall, RRs are true luxury cars. They are designed for those who don’t care about reliability and only need true luxury, like celebrities and high-profile ministers. That is why you probably see most of Britain’s government officials drive Range Rovers.

A BMW with an Oil Leak

Does anyone know where this oil leak can be coming from started 2 weeks ago 2015 320i xdrive : r/BMW

You know it’s a Dutch car, so if you decide to get its engine fixed, it’s not going to be cheap work. And BMW’s, they are famous for two things:

  • Their drivers don’t use turn signals
  • Oil leaks in BMW engine

The engine design and material choice cause the oil leak. First, it’s more likely to happen if you have an M series BMW with a turbocharger.

BMW tunes the M series engines for high performance so they can output more power, which means they are more stressed and operate at very high temperatures. BMW also uses synthetic rubber gaskets, which leak out faster under constant high-temperature pressure.

Oil leaks are more likely to happen on the valve cover and oil pan. Repairing them is also super expensive. Note that before buying the leaked oil, Beamer.

A Civic X with Steering Rack Issues

2018-2019 FK8 Honda Civic Type R Steering Rack w/ EPS Motor / TR102 - Redline Auto Parts

The Civic X is known for its design flaws, just like Toyota’s fuel pump, but it also had steering rack issues in Pakistan and all over the world. The good thing was that Honda offered all its customers a free replacement for this steering rack when they found out it was a design flaw from their side in 2018.

Just note if you see a used Civic X with steering rack issue, it means that the previous owner was too lazy to get it fixed through Honda’s free replacement program in 2018. Now, their laziness will cost you 6 lacs, because Honda doesn’t offer free replacement anymore.

So, make sure to buy the Civic X whose rack is fine or negotiate accordingly.

A JDM Car with Airbag Delete

In Japan a Total Loss Toyota Aqua Repaired in Pakistan is credited to ‪@accidentmaster‬ - YouTube

Sometimes you buy an accidented JDM car, the model used to came with airbags, but your specific car doesn’t have airbags even though if the dashboard says “SRS Airbags.”

Because that specific car was a total loss in Japan, the dealer imported it to Pakistan and restored it locally. To lower the cost, the dealer didn’t put SRS airbags during the restoration.

If the dealer tells you that it’s a light accident, don’t trust them; they are lying; there is a 90% chance that the car was involved in a heavy accident, and that’s why airbags were deployed. However, the dealer didn’t put the airbags again during restoration so that they could keep the cost low.

You can do auction sheet verification. If it says D grade, it’s a messed up car. You must negotiate the price accordingly and don’t pay the price that you would pay for a non-accidented car with OEM Airbags.

To avoid such frauds, use the PakWheels Auction Sheet Verification Service to buy such cars without any doubt.
