Which Bike Has A Better Fuel Average? Honda vs Suzuki
Today we are here with an interesting challenge! We all see ads of motorcycle companies claiming unbelievable numbers of fuel average, and it makes us wonder: “kia ye waqayi itna thora petrol khati hai?” And with the rise in petrol prices every other day, bike owners dream of getting the most mileage out of their bikes with as little petrol as possible.
But the question is – which bike has the best fuel average? To find out, we tested 3 bikes of different categories and put them through conditions faced by an average bike in Pakistan. We chose Honda CD 70 owned by Jibran, Honda CG 125 owned by Moiz, and Suzuki GS150 SE owned by Waris.
Criteria
We wanted to choose bikes that would give highly accurate results. This was our criteria for choosing these bikes:
- All the bikes should be of the latest model, in this case, of the year 2021.
- All the bikes should have traveled very few miles
- All the bikes should be well maintained
Procedure
Like any other experiment, we also wanted our procedure to be quantitative and accurate. This is why, we emptied the fuel tanks of all three bikes completely. Only the fuel in front of the carburettor was left inside. After leaving the tanks bone-dry, we filled them with exactly 1 liter petrol.
To ensure further accuracy, we calculated the kilometers traveled by each bike separately beforehand. During the test, the bikes only stopped once all the fuel from their tanks had drained and they could not go on further. This way, we subtracted the initial number of kilometers from the final number of kilometers traveled and calculated the average.
Route
We wanted to mimic the average daily life usage of bikes like these around Pakistan. That’s why, the route that we chose consisted of both busy city roads and empty, open roads. This way the bikes experienced traffic jams, traffic signals, and high speed broad roads during the commute.
Speed
All three bikes were driven at average speeds of 40-50 km/h throughout the busy city roads with occasional stop-and-go of the traffic. Then, on open roads of DHA and Sea View, the riders pushed these bikes to go up to average speed of 60-70 km/h. This way, the fuel economy of the bikes was tested on different speeds.
Results
Now is the time for the final results. Which bike gave the best mileage and what were the overall results – here are the results:
- The lowest fuel economy was of Suzuki GS 150SE. It is usually marketed to provide a mileage of 45-45 km/l but it disappointed us with a relatively lower fuel average of 40 km/l.
- Honda CG 125 displayed a fuel economy of 53 km/l. This result is pretty impressive as it is generally believed to have a mileage of 35-40 km/l.
- Honda CD 70 provided a fuel average of 60 km/l. This is also somewhat disappointing because it is general marketed to provide a whopping 80km/l of fuel economy.
Verdict
Despite providing the highest fuel economy among the three bikes, Honda CD 70 is not our winner. Honda CD 70 is marketed as a cheap or affordable bike due to which it lacks several features, is not the most comfortable and is solely bought by the public because of its impressive fuel average. But, compared to Honda CG 125, there is very small difference in the fuel economy of both bikes and the CG 125 provides better performance and more comfort as well.
Keeping that in view, we consider Honda CG 125 to be the winner here!
We hope you enjoyed our experiment. Do you agree with our verdict? How much fuel average does your bike give? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
