Perhaps the greatest marketing that a company ever did in Pakistan was Pak Suzuki. Suzuki Mehran’s sales were falling continuously and they had to bump them back up somehow. If this was some other country, Mehran would’ve been terminated and replaced with a newer model as people had lost interest, but this is Pakistan, we’re told to deal with technology Japan has dumped so Pak Suzuki had to rekindle interest in Mehran.
And how did they did it? All Suzuki did was advertise Mehran as Mehran Reborn, ‘a new one is coming’ on which they changed absolutely nothing. And alas! Sales were back up amazingly and still are.
When we look at the City Aspire, we see the same marketing genius behind it with just a new 1.5 liter engine which Honda Atlas decided to offer as a completely new and different City Aspire instead of giving it as an engine option for people looking for little more power.
Because if we played a game of spot the differences between the normal Honda City and City Aspire. There would be none I am guessing with the exception of engine.
The 1.3 liter in the normal City produces 98 HP while the 1.5 liter in the Aspire produces 120 HP while at the launch event, Honda has claimed that fuel economy of the Aspire is very good.
The price for a Manual transmission Aspire is 16.38 lac whereas an Automatic is 17.70 lac expensive.
The manual 1.3 liter City is for 1,494,000 Rupees and add another 50,000 rupees for a multimedia system which most of us already avoid whereas the automatic 1.3 liter city is for 1,635,000, still expensive for a small car but what other options do you have.
I just bought a city in pakistan last month. for 14,98000 rupees. the multimedia system is just useless so I didn't get that, i already have this multimedia in my Civic 2012 which now I think was not needed, a simple cd player was good enough, in the City the two speakers on the front doors are enough compared to the aspire four door speakers. well a 22HP gain compared to the rise in price of the model is just pathetic. I can get that quantity of gain by some basic upgrades in the normal 1.3L engine in normal city. they give Alloy rims and thicker tires in the City Aspire, and it would be absurd to believe that 1.5 has better Km/L average than a 1.3L ivtec with less weight on wheels and less over all weight to carry. as far as mehran is concerned, didn't they made the engine EFI, which resulted in a better engine power, much better fuel average which actually was the reason for the sales to come back up.

A fellow Pakwheeler got to do internship in Pak Suzuki at the time Mehran was being launched. So we learned and shared a whole lot of things in Pak Suzuki. Remember the hype surrounding Civic Reborn? That's what aided the sales of Mehran. Mehran Reborn. People were skeptical of the EFI system in Mehran. In the past, some local workshops started to sell the EFI system but it didn't gain interest and only reason EFI was introduced was government's regulations for implementing EURO-II standards.

imported cars are way better dan this crap. Just imagine 50k for a sound system. Japanese cars and engines are a class. Mehran lovers…..u people really suck who spend 6 lac for a piece of shit and buy a so called euro model of mehran.

why we keep on criticizing these companies for using old models n ol technologies here , we the people r the main reason behind there success , after jdm cars there is no reason to buy cars like mehran alto n cultus but still people buy them even after paying own money…what have we done with giants like nissan chevrolet n mitsubishi , we threw them out saying that what ever u bring here we wont give u a chance , we kicked hyundai out which is a growing company now all over the world…

Afnan i agree with you. bus paki mentality rocks….hahaha….yeh qom suzuki mai phassi rahay ge sari umar. and for city aspire 1.5, ppl have several options now. they just need to come out of that new car thingy. one can get a powerful car in this budget with a more powerful engine.
People who drive a Honda can understand the difference, Honda is totally different from other and this is for a class. Not for every Tom and Harry who go for a used old car with no sense that where it was last dented painted in Karachi or Japan.
Moreover, Multimedia is for the people who knows how to use this, again which is different type of Class.
Sir if u r talkin abt Honda CIty then i thnk every imported car is more comfrtable than this car….hard suspention, they just concentrate on speed and horsepower whereas, i thnk that these two things r not the main features a person needs in a normal sedan car…..
if u cmpare older model City with new, older seems more comfrtable and heavier to drive…
