Pakistan International Airline is all geared up to launch its new operation from Islamabad to Gwadar in a bid to curb its losses and gain more air traffic. Gwadar port under CPEC agreement gets into completion this year and, soon will become the economic and tourism hub of Pakistan. So, PIA authorities are eyeing to take maximum advantage out of it.

By the end of March 2017, the national airline was facing a loss of PKR 319.1 billion, but now adding a lucrative destination on its list the glory days of PIA is not far away. While talking to media Chief Executive Officer of PIA Musharraf Rasool Cyan said, “As a national airline of the country, it is our responsibility to connect all parts of Pakistan.”

Furthermore, new Islamabad Airport will also start its operation in H1 (First Half) of this year, which will cater to the passengers and tourist travelling from Europe, China, and Africa. It is important to note here that Pakistan International Airline as of now flies to around 110 destinations every single day with a fleet of just 36 aircrafts, but now the concerned authorities are planning to expand it to 44 carriers in the next three years. Additionally, PIA would also increase its domestic flight operations as well as upgrade its software to reduce the time of repairing faulty aircrafts.

Aside from PIA starting its new operation, the Government of Gilgit and Baltistan has also invited private airlines to start their flights/operation in the G-B region with the collaboration of the provincial government to increase tourism.

The Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman in this regard said that there is a lot of space for new airlines to start their flight operations in G-B.
