Assalamualaikum PakWheels viewers! In this episode of the PakWheels Owner Review series, Suneel Munj is joined by Abrar Bhai, a seasoned vehicle user who has now switched to the 2025 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid. Abrar Bhai has been exploring the automotive world for over three and a half years, driving various cars, and today he shares his honest review of the Elantra Hybrid—a model that stands out as one of the first hybrid sedans officially launched in Pakistan.

Purchase Decision and Initial Impressions

Abrar explains that he was looking for a sedan with hybrid technology that offered good fuel economy and comfort for family use. He compared the Elantra Hybrid to other options like the Toyota and the Civic. Having previously driven other vehicles like a 2,000cc Elantra and Haval Jolion, he finally decided the Elantra Hybrid was the best fit in terms of fuel efficiency, comfort, and price under Rs. 1 crore.

He booked the car online and chose the Sage Green colour, opting to wait a couple of months for delivery rather than immediately take a readily available black variant. He appreciated the unique colour and felt the car’s shape and styling were attractive yet unconventional—some friends liked the front design, others preferred the rear. He compared the front to a smaller Sonata version, giving it a sporty appeal.

Interior and Features

The Elantra Hybrid offers a pleasing interior, and key highlights include:

  • Wireless Android Auto, which Abrar finds especially useful for seamless multitasking, music, and navigation without distractions.

  • Heated and ventilated seats and dual-zone climate control.

  • Wireless charger.

  • Sporty and modern steering wheel, similar to the Sonata.

  • A digital instrument cluster that resembles the Sonata’s setup.

  • Ambient lighting with blue hues adds a stylish touch to the cabin.

He notes that the car’s controls and infotainment buttons are thoughtfully placed, though there is a slight distraction when trying to use them while driving.

Fuel Economy and Performance

One of the key advantages of the Elantra Hybrid is its impressive fuel economy. After driving around 3680 km, Abrar reports an average of 22.2 km/l, which includes both highway and city driving. Specifically:

  • City driving: About 25 km/l on average.

  • Highway driving: Around 19 km/l.

These figures stand out as some of the best fuel efficiency numbers for a hybrid in Pakistan.

Performance-wise, the car responds well, with good torque and horsepower giving a confident feel on city and highway roads. Abrar appreciates the car’s quick throttle response, especially in stop-and-go traffic situations.

Space, Comfort, and Handling

The rear seat offers ample legroom and comfort for families, though it’s slightly less spacious than larger SUVs like the Haval. Three adults can sit comfortably, and the overall cabin space is well utilised.

The suspension performs excellently, efficiently absorbing potholes and rough roads—a significant plus given the poor road conditions in cities like Karachi. The car remains balanced and stable at both low and high speeds.

Missing Features and Areas for Improvement

While the car has many positives, Abrar mentions a few missing or suboptimal features:

  • 360-degree camera is not present, which would have been helpful for city driving and parking.

  • Blind spot monitoring is missing, which he feels is important for safety, especially in city traffic.

  • The sound system could be better; it lacks rear speakers, which limits the audio experience.

  • The interior compass display was removed from this model, which was a small disappointment.

  • Alloy wheel design could’ve been improved, and the tyres can be a bit bigger.

Registration and Insurance

Abrar shares that the registration cost for the Elantra Hybrid was around PKR 250,000, which he finds high considering the government’s push for EVs and hybrids. He argues for reduced taxes and better incentives to promote cleaner vehicles.

Insurance was handled smoothly through a trusted friend’s company, with the advice that buyers should always insure their cars, especially in cities with high theft and accident risks.

Maintenance and Service Experience

With over 3600 km on the odometer, Abrar took the car for its first service at 1,000 km. The service experience was good, and no charges were applied at the time. He notes that service centres may differ in how they charge, but his experience was positive.

Comparison with Previous Cars and Final Thoughts

Abrar’s previous experience with the Elantra 2,000 cc and Haval helped shape his expectations. He finds the Elantra Hybrid offers a great balance of fuel economy, comfort, and performance. The car has plenty of torque, making city driving easier, and it feels responsive without sacrificing comfort.

Summary

The Hyundai Elantra Hybrid 2025 stands out as a strong contender in the Pakistani sedan market, especially for buyers seeking:

  • Impressive fuel economy

  • Comfortable family-oriented space

  • Smooth and stable handling

  • Modern tech features like wireless Android Auto and heated seats

Though there are a few missing safety and convenience features, overall, it is a compelling package for the price.
