0 18,211

In November 2023, Atlas Honda made waves in Pakistan’s automotive scene with the unveiling of its first electric scooter, the BENLY e. While the company didn’t reveal a specific launch date for the electric two-wheeler at that time, recent reports suggest that Atlas Honda is now preparing to launch its electric bike in the local market by June 2025.

To look into the matter, we reached out to several dealerships who confirmed the update; however, it’s still unclear if the same BENLY e-scooter will be the model launched in the market. Nevertheless, anticipation remains strong. Regardless of which model is introduced, the move highlights Atlas Honda’s commitment to maintaining its market leadership. The company currently commands an impressive 85% share of Pakistan’s motorcycle market, with its growing international exports further enhancing its reputation.

Challenges in e-Bike Market

The electric two-wheeler market in Pakistan is still in its early stages. Challenges such as high pricing, limited charging infrastructure, and consumer reluctance have hindered growth. Even though the government has introduced incentives like tax reductions on electric vehicles (EVs), electric motorcycles represented less than 1% of the total motorcycle sales in 2024.

Despite these hurdles, industry experts are optimistic that Atlas Honda’s entry could be a transformative event, thanks to the brand’s strong reputation and extensive manufacturing capabilities.

Atlas Honda’s Advantage

Atlas Honda’s massive production facility, which churns out approximately 1.3 million motorcycles annually, operates with a highly localized supply chain, sourcing over 95% of components domestically. This established infrastructure, paired with a dedicated R&D team, gives the company a unique advantage to create electric bikes tailored for Pakistan’s specific needs.

The Global Trends

Globally, electric two-wheeler sales are on the rise, particularly in Asian countries like India and China, where affordability and government incentives are driving adoption. However, rapid advancements in EV technology, such as improved battery and charging systems, indicate that companies relying on imported electric bikes might soon face challenges as battery technology evolves.
