Changan Pakistan has been generating a lot of buzz in the market these days. And interestingly, the reason is complex. Tighten your seat belt and hold on tight! Well, a day back, the company launched a black edition of its prominent sedan in the country, Changan Alsvin’. Car enthusiasts hadn’t even seen the fully black interior of the car properly when another update arrived.

Can you exactly guess what the update would be? Well, today, sources informed us that Changan Pakistan is gearing up to reveal the facelift of its famous crossover SUV, Oshan X7. You can also call it a ‘nominal facelift’.

Surprised to read ‘nominal’? Well, it’s more of a minor makeover than a major redesign, with sources hinting at subtle cosmetic changes inside and out. Don’t expect a drastic transformation, but look for some visual tweaks to enhance the X7’s look and feel.

Is it a Facelift?

The ‘major’ enhancements, you may observe in upcoming ‘facelift’ would nothing be more than a “new wheel designs, a trim color adjustment beneath the headlights and a two-spoke steering wheel replacing the current three-spoke design including one or two others.” That’s all.

Disappointingly, these alterations seem more marketing ploy than genuine improvement. The X7’s refresh appears to be a case of “same car, new brochure”. Here, Changan Pakistan followed the footprints of local bike makers where a bike with ‘just a new sticker’ is named a new model.

Such “upgrades” are nothing new in our market and are quite common. Not just with the bike assemblers but with car assemblers as well. Case in point, the “Aero” package in the Yaris from a while back. Those upgrades to the Yaris were so comically small, people had to really explain what was changed in the car in the first place.
Or the constant “upgrades” to the now almost 12 year old (11th gen) Corolla in Pakistan. It now has more plastic slapped on to it than the Kardashians!
