After announcing the project a few days ago, City Traffic Police Lahore has started monitoring traffic with drones. As per media reports, the police can monitor traffic jams, hurdles, and other issues through a drone from one kilometer away. “It will increase traffic flow, and it would be great for both citizens and police,” SP Traffic Police Shahzad Khan told the media.

Initially, two police teams are monitoring the traffic through drones in different parts of the city. “We have taken proper training of operating drone from the experts,” one of the police officials said, adding that we now know about its hardware, software, and fly time.

Meanwhile, Chief Traffic Police (CTO) Lahore Muntazir Mehdi said that the force was facing a massive jam issue in Shahdara Chowk. “From there, we decided to use technology to know about traffic jams, encroachments, and other issues in real-time,” he said.

Moreover, the police will form four teams for the drone monitoring system and appoint them in different parts of Lahore. Using the latest technology to resolve issues is a good step from the Lahore police.

It is pertinent to mention that this is the first such project in Pakistan and hopefully it will be expanded to other cities.

Project Announced by City Traffic Police Lahore

On October 13, the police announced they would monitor the traffic on Mall Road, Jail Road, Canal Road, and Ferozepur Road. Talking to the media, Mehdi said we will watch vehicles causing pollution and violating the traffic rules. Yesterday, he observed the drone monitoring of a protest on Mall Road.

Furthermore, the police will monitor rallies, mega-events, protests and other important programs on the roads. “We will also keep a check on illegal parking stands, wrong parking and encroachments through drones,” Mehdi said.

Also, he said that the data would be shared with the relevant authorities so that such issues could be resolved on emergency grounds. To make it completely operational, CTO has established Drone Monitoring and Surveillance Unit. The officer said that after a successful experimental phase, we will expand this project to other important city roads.

It won’t end traffic jam, they should hire more agent to regulate traffic.
Also they should check people driving licence as well background a lot doesn’t put a step in a driving school.
The drivers should also be responsible of the way they are driving.
