PAK: Urdu Truck Art and Poetry

RAWALPINDI, PAKISTAN – OCTOBER 9: Urdu poetry adorns the front of a garishly painted truck at a painting and repair yard, October 9, 2008, in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. The heavily adorned Bedford trucks have become a national icon and cost upwards of one million rupees (USD$12,500) for a full makeover. Much of the artwork consists of a cultural mix of religious and secular, Pakistani film and music stars, cricket legends, romanticized military imagery of F-16 fighter jets and Ghauri missiles, the Prophet’s winged horse, Buraq, and dreamlike scenes of wooded lakes and snow-capped mountains and exotic animals.
