With everything going on in the Pakistani automotive industry, many of us have completely forgotten about Haval, haven’t we? But the newly launched car brand is back with a bang! Sazgar Engineering Works Limited (SEWL) sent a notification to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) to inform that the company’s partner, Haval, has received a Category-A Greenfield Investment status by the Ministry of Industries & Production of Pakistan. Under this status, Sazgar will start the local production of Haval SUVs till June 2022.
For the record, Haval is an SUV brand in China, owned by the famous Great Wall Motors company. Earlier this year, Sazgar partnered with GWM to bring premium Haval SUVs to Pakistan. The company imported Completely Built-Up (CBU) units of Haval SUVs and sold them in the country. With the greenfield status, Sazgar will now build an assembly plant in Pakistan and manufacture Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) units of Haval SUVs.
A Look at Haval Pakistan
Haval made its official debut in Pakistan about a month ago with two premium SUVs, Haval Jolion and Haval H6. Sazgar imported a limited number of CBU units of Jolion and H6 and opened the bookings in a soft launch. Pakistani consumers loved both the SUVs so much that all CBU units were booked within a few days. The company closed the bookings to focus on the timely delivery of the booked vehicles.
A few days later, Sazgar reopened the bookings of CBU units of Haval Jolion and Haval H6 for only three days. With the new bookings window came new prices. The company hiked the prices of both SUVs by Rs. 2 lacs because of the increased operational costs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nobody was happy with the news; still, the second batch of Haval SUVs got sold within three days, and the company closed the bookings once again.
This shows that Haval has earned a place in the Pakistani market in a very short amount of time. So far, Sazgar is making the right moves at the right times. Getting the greenfield status to start the local assembly of Haval SUVs will take this brand to a whole new level.
