Today we present to you an owner’s review of a 1987 Nissan Sunny in pristine condition, where we get to know the owner’s experience with the car that has been in his family for over 35 years. This B12 Sunny is the 6th generation Sunny which came between 1986 to 1988.

It was offered in many variants with several engine options; this particular car has a 1.0-liter engine that produces 50hp and 75Nm of torque, and configured with a 4-speed manual transmission.

Acquisition

The owner’s grandfather imported this Sunny from Japan in 1987, and it has been with them since then. As per the owner, he has traveled a lot in this car and holds many memories with it. “The condition of the car reflects the way it has been kept, and it still runs perfectly,” he added.

Salient Features

Being a 35-year-old car, the B12 Sunny has basic features as it was an entry-level sedan. Some of the features include manual steering with manual windows, an analogue speedometer, a digital clock, a stereo system, and an air conditioner, which in fact, works really well.

Comfort

The car’s comfort is exemplary; it represents the style of seats that 80’s cars usually had, like a sofa. It comes with fabric seats with a combination of leather which are extremely comfortable to travel in. According to the owner, “the comfort of this car is way more than newer cars”.

Handling

The car is stable at low speeds, and the suspension is also relatively soft, but the road grip at high speeds is very poor. After 100 km/h, the car is unstable, and the owner experiences a lot of body roll. Furthermore, aerodynamics was not emphasized in that era, and the boxy design shows that, along with the poor road grip.

Storage Spaces

Being a sedan, storage is good with a decent-sized boot that can carry two large bags. However, the interior lacks spaces to store items like cup holders, and the door compartments are also very small.

Fuel Average

As per the owner, the car’s fuel average is good; it gives around 11 to 12 km/l within the city and around 14 km/l on the highway. Being a sedan with a 1.0-liter engine, this is a good fuel average considering it’s an underpowered car.

Spare Parts and Maintenance

Although the car is very old, it is still visible on the roads indicating its reliability. Spare parts are available in local markets, although some mechanical parts can be hard to find. Local mechanics are also fond of this car, so it can be maintained easily. The owner maintains the car on every 5000 kilometers.

Not a fan of Nissan, however, one thing is sure, cars from the 70s, 80s, and 90s will easily outstrip today’s car in every regard.
