Honda HR-V is the latest addition in the crossover SUV market of Pakistan in two variants, i.e., VTi and VTi S. The top-of-the-line variant is VTi S so we thought to compare it with its first direct competitor, Peugeot 2008 Allure, which is also top variant and  both cars are from B segment.

Dimensions

The Honda HR-V is 171 inches long, 71 inches wide and 63 inches high. In comparison, Peugeot 2008 is 169 inches long, 70 inches wide and 61 inches high. This means that HR-V is longer and wider than its competitor but less in height.

Engine and Transmission

Honda has launched its crossover with 1500cc naturally aspirated engine generating 121hp and 145Nm of torque, compared to 1200cc turbo engine which produces 130hp and 230Nm of torque. Hence, the latter is more powerful than the newly launched vehicle.

Last but not least, HR-V is launched with CVT transmission against 6-speed automatic in 2008, giving an edge to the Honda’s car.

Exterior

The front and rear lights in HR-V are LED, while 2008 is offering 3-claw full LED headlights and LED backlights. Meanwhile, both crossovers have 17-inch alloy wheels.

Both cars come with smart keyless entry and push start option.

Interior

The HR-V has been launched with 4.2 inches MID display compared to 10.3 inches 3D cluster. If we compare the infotainment system, Honda’s vehicle has 9-inch screen with Android and Apple CarPlay multimedia against 7-inch multimedia in Peugeot’s car.

Coming to air conditioner, HR-V has dual zone climate control, while 2008 has auto climate control in it. However, HR-V is coming with rear AC vents which are not offered in its competitor. Both cars have driver + passenger manual seat adjustment option.

The additional features in 2008 are panoramic sunroof, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS),

Safety Features

If we compare the safety features, Peugeot 2008 has a slight edge on HR-V. The additional features in 2008 are cruise control, electronic stability program(ESP),  hydraulic brake assist System (HBA), lane keep assist (LKA),  driver attention alert(DAA3), rear parking sensors  and 6 airbags compared to 4 in HR-V.

Meanwhile, HR-V has front + rear cameras against only rear in 2008.

Price

The price of newly launched Honda HR-V Rs. 6,199,000, compared to Rs. 6,100,000, meaning Peugeot 2008 is a bit lower in price.

Slight Edge for the Peugeot in the safety features?! 🤣

Reading the list, the Peugeot 2008 has a MAJOR edge. It actually has some advanced safety features like lane keep assist, and driver attention alert and has 6 airbags. Plus it has cruse control. The HR-V does not! At that price point and in this day and age, the HR-V does not offer cruse control. Wow! talk about “anything to save a buck”.

Adding the Panoramic roof and TPMS; Yes! the Peugeot 2008 is the better deal.

You think electronic features, are the most important thing too considere when buying a car ?
First thing to focus on is the engine, here Honda engine is better a 4 cylinders vs a 3 cylinders, Honda is also more reliable and durable, Peugeot’s engines are starting to break down after 60 000 km, a problem welll known in France.
And why are you looking to much for the cruize control ? When you know how to drive, features like cruze control are only to increase comfort, on motorway only.
And for the lane keep assist for the love of God take a look at our roads, and the traffic, most of the time drivers will put off th cruze control or it will beep everytimes.
Last not least, the fewer electronics features you can have is the fewer risk to encounter a failure, thus better reliablity.

Buddy!!! Been too long! How you been?

After reading your comment I did check again and the 2008 is getting very good reviews for reliability. The old model did have issues, but the new one, which we here, is considered “fashionable and well built”. Engine reliability especially mentioned.
You should also look into it. Peugeot has, and has had, some very reliable cars and engines.
I also find it strange when cruse and lane assist are given in the jap cars, people beam about them and gush all over them. But in the 2008, you are treating these features as an inconvenience. Strange…🤷‍♂️ The features I’m talking about are now decades old, especially cruse control. Reliability is pretty much solid on these technologies.
Lastly, what you are saying is, you want to pay more to get less… 🤔😕
Still, if you think it is a good choice go right ahead. Your choice. I’m just saying, based on the data, The 2008 is the better choice for anyone who is not stuck in the jap web and is actually looking for a good small run about. I personally think the 2008 looks better and has a distinct look. The HR-V has a more generic kind of “play-it-safe” look; done in order to appeal to more people no doubt. Much like the Hyundai Tucson that we have here. Both give similar vibes and are safe but appealing.

Don’t take it badly but what are your sources ?
Here is a link about the France’s number one automotive website :
    https://www.caradisiac.com/faut-il-acheter-une-peugeot-citroen-ds-d-occasion-equipee-du-moteur-1-2-puretech-196274.htm
You can use any translation tool you want.
Is the french professionals themselves they are saying how much problems are those cars, including the 2008 sold in Pakistan.
You said Peugeot had good engine, yes in the past is the old diesel engine known as HDI, i owned a Citroen.
For the features they are old technologies, but what utility they are providing ? Especialy in our Market, Pakistan is not a rich country Again, and the traffic is among the worst in the world.
The 2008 got a sporty look making it attractive where HR-V got an elegent look, but don’t be fooled by the look that’s what i mean.
Is nothing against you or someone else is to warn about a bad product.
And in Pakistan today we are more options with the Korean, Kia, Hyundai as well the Malaysian Proton. And for the wealthy there is always the Germans.
For the chineses i’am boycotting them, with they vicious policy with us, cutting 12 of our power plant, , at first i didn’t believed in the Chinese debt trap, but no more.

Thanks for the share. I went through the article and it says pretty much what I had previously mentioned. There were issues, leading to a recall. but the recall was for models from March 2013 to April 2017. Covering about 220,000 cars (various models) in total. It was primarily a timing belt issue. The engines were going through the belts quicker than the recommended interval. The recommended interval at the time was 10 years or 180,000 KM. Now the interval has been reduced to 6 years or 100,000KM. Personally, I think the 100K interval is much more realistic. I drive an old JDM and even in its manuals it is recommended that the timing belts be changed after 100,000 KM. I actually got mine changed early just for peace of mind.
The article also mentions that the problem does still come up in the newer 208s and 2008s. But now the company is fully aware of it and the occurrences of such issues are very rare. So the issues are not that much if an issue I would think. If we are to discuss issues let us not forget the local Civic X. It had some major mechanical issues. Yet it was so well liked.
Still, like I said, to each his own. All I’m saying is, it is an option.

I like when we are agreeing the problems is still present in the newer 208 and 2008, thus the one sold in Pakistan.
And we are only talking about timing belt wich is one of the most important part of the engine. They are other mechanical issues, anyway Peugeot is a brand to avoid for peace of mind.
For the Honda Civic , i know the previous generation got some quality build issues in the beginings but currently, i don’t think ,Honda Civic is the flagship model of Pakistan, In USA they also made a 1 milllion km or miles warranty. The infotainment system of Honda is made by Sony, as you may probably know Sony and Honda have a partnership.
And the 2008 could only accomodate 4 adults where HR-V is 5 adults.
