Total Cost of Ring Piston Work for Popular Bikes

So you’ve finally got a ring-piston work in your motorcycle, or have you bought a used motorcycle that needed a ring-piston overhaul? And if you’re looking for its quotation without wasting your time on multiple mechanics, we’ve got you covered!

Here’s how much it costs to do ring-piston work on all Pakistani motorcycles, including CD, CB, CG, YBR, GS, GR, and Pridor.

Honda CD 70 | National Bike of Pakistan

CD70, the national bike of Pakistan. Due to its smaller engine, you’re most likely to face its ring-piston earlier than other bikes with 100+ cc engines. Basically, due to the small piston size, it can’t produce higher HPs that way, so it’s designed to operate at higher RPMs, probably around 12-14k RPMs on full throttle. For instance, CG125 can only rev to a maximum of 10k RPMs.

Moreover, due to its small surface area, it heats up quicker and can’t dissipate heat as much as CG and YBR due to their bigger fins on the head and cylinder. Generally, CD’s stock and brand new engine lasts a maximum of 30-40k km. If not driven carefully, you can expect the ring-piston work only after 15-25k km.

Here’s the cost of doing ring-piston work:

  • All genuine work with a new sleeve and 0 size original Atlas Honda piston kit: Rs.8,500
  • Using a non-genuine piston kit (Crown Lifan) with an oversize 0.5mm piston: Rs.6,500

Honda CG125

CG is a reliable machine. If you keep it with care, change the oil on time, and ride properly, its engine can last about 60-80k Km. However, 80% of CG owners face the ring-piston work only after 30-50k Km.

That’s because the majority of the public doesn’t get oil changes on time and doesn’t take proper care of their bikes. You see, most CG owners are from very backward areas; they’re not literate enough. So, they probably put in counterfeit engine oils or very low-quality oils and don’t change them on time, with some even running their bikes for double or triple the manufacturer’s recommended oil change intervals. As a result, the engine dyes out after only 30-50k Km

However, owners who are more knowledgeable about vehicle maintenance, use high-quality oil, and adhere to regular oil change intervals can expect their CG bikes to last between 60-80k Km without major problems.

If you’re buying a used CG, especially an older than 2016 model with a sealed engine, you probably need to do the ring-piston work of that old bike. Here’s how much it’s going to cost you:

  • All genuine work with a new sleeve and 0 size original Atlas Honda piston kit: Rs.14,000
  • Using a non-genuine piston kit (Crown Lifan) with an oversized 0.5mm piston: Rs.8,000

Suzuki GS150 & GR150

These bikes use the same engine platform, so their cost and life are almost the same. These Suzuki 150cc engines are super solid and very reliable. We’ve even seen people riding their GS’s with 100,000+ Km on the odometer with sealed engines. Of course, the owner would have taken proper care of the bike if it was still running at 100k with the sealed engine. It all depends on your care, oil change intervals, and the oil you use.

Normally, if you use Suzuki 10w-40 oil and change it after exactly 1,000 Km, your engine isn’t going anywhere before 80k Km. If you’re buying a very old GS, probably a 2012-15 model, sealed engine, you might need to do its ring-piston work.

Here’s how much it’s going to cost you:

  • All genuine work with a new sleeve and 0 size original Suzuki piston kit: Rs.25,000
  • Using a non-genuine piston kit (Crown Lifan) with an oversized 0.5mm piston: Rs.14,000

Honda CB150F

If you have this bike, ring-piston failure is in your fortune. It’s the manufacturing defect of CB150F. Even in a brand-new motorcycle, CB shows the ring-piston issue works earlier than any motorcycle.

The most common issue in CB is oil consumption. You put in 1 Liter of complete oil, and on the next oil change, you see that only 800 ml of oil is poured out. However, the good thing is that Atlas offers you a 100% free replacement under the warranty. But, due to the engine’s design defect, it still consumes oil even if its ring piston is changed and in 100% health.

Anyway, if you keep the oil top-up and change it on time, it can last anywhere between 50-70k km.

Here’s how much it’s going to cost you:

  • All genuine work with a new sleeve and 0 size original Atlas piston kit: Rs.33,000
  • Using a non-genuine piston kit with an oversized 0.5mm piston: Rs.15,000

Honda Pridor

Pridor seems like a reliable bike, but it’s not. Its ring piston runs out after 15-25k Km. It’s, again, a manufacturing defect in most Pridor motorcycles. But, unlike CB, it’s not in every bike but in some units.

If you’re buying a used Pridor, even in a 2021 model, you probably need to do its ring-piston work now or later.

Here’s how much it’s going to cost you:

  • All genuine work with a new sleeve and 0 size original Atlas piston kit: Rs.11,000
  • Using a non-genuine piston kit with an oversized 0.5mm piston: Rs.4,000

Suzuki GD110s

The GD110s is also a very reliable machine, and its engine lasts an eternity. Usually, if you drive it carefully and change the oil on time, it’s not going anywhere before 60k km. But if you’re buying a very old model, like a 2015 or 16 model, it’s probably time to do ring-piston work.

Here’s how much it’s going to cost you:

  • All genuine work with a new sleeve and 0 size original Suzuki piston kit: Rs.18,000
  • Using a non-genuine piston kit with an oversized 0.5mm piston: Rs.9,000

Yamaha YBR

YBR engines are also solid and last very long. If you keep it running on its OEM Yamaha 10w40 oil and change it after 1,000 km, your engine will last at least 70k km. If you get a very old model, like a 2016 one, or buy that old model, it might be the end of the ring piston.

Here’s how much it’s going to cost you:

  • All genuine work with a new sleeve and 0 size original Yamaha piston kit: Rs.20,000 (estimated)
  • Using a non-genuine piston kit with an oversized 0.5mm piston: Rs.9,000
