After introducing home-based vehicle registration service in this August, the Sindh government has taken another significant step to improve transparency and reducing fraud in the vehicle registration and transfer process.
Division of Phases
The provincial government is implementing the process in different phases:
Starting from July 1st, in phase one, all new vehicle registrations will require biometric verification. This means that buyers will need to provide their fingerprints and other biometric data to complete the registration process.
In the second phase, beginning November 1st, biometric verification will be extended to include those purchasing used vehicles. This means that both the buyer and seller will need to provide their biometric information.
Whereas in third and final phase, biometric verification will become mandatory for all vehicle transfers, regardless of whether the vehicle is new or used.
The Sindh Excise Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, announced these changes, emphasizing the importance of enhancing transparency and preventing illegal activities in the vehicle market. Biometric verification will help ensure that only legitimate transactions take place and that vehicles are not being transferred illegally.
Citizens can complete biometric verification at NADRA e-facilitation centers or their local district excise offices. The process is relatively simple and involves providing fingerprints and other biometric data.
Other Services
This is just one of the many initiatives taken by the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department to modernize and improve its services. Previous measures include the facilitation of vehicle registrations at showrooms, the introduction of premium number plates to raise funds for flood victims and home-based vehicle registration Service.
This home-based new service comes at a government fee of ten thousand rupees, and both biometric data collection and verification will be conducted at the individual’s residence. This initiative is expected to save time and effort for vehicle owners, who no longer have to visit government offices for registration purposes.
