Is Punjab Ending Biometric System for Car Transfer?
Punjab Excise and Taxation Department launched the biometric car transfer system in January, 2022. After the launch of this new system that biometric became essential for car transfer, new car registration. But there was a rumor circulating in the local market that the government is rolling back the program.
As per reports and “agents” in the market, the government is ending the program due to its inefficiency and unpopularity among the masses. “The new biometric system is not user friendly and that is why the excise department will end it in next few days,” one of the “agents” told us.
The same individuals claimed that the old system will be brought back because it works fine. Prior to these news, we decided to cross-check these claims. And this what we found.
The Answer is NO!
After asking from the government officials, we got the answer that the rumors are totally false. “No such plan is under discussion,” our sources said. Furthermore, they believe that the agent mafia is spreading these rumors for their own benefits. Hence, the consumers should stay alert and should not believe such unreliable news.
Why Biometric is Important?
The process of biometric verification is essential to eliminate the malpractices, like open letter, used in the market. It also makes the whole process more transparent. As per the department, biometric of both buyer and seller are essential for car transfer. “If you are a seller, you have to go to E-Pay App, add your data, submit the fee and then both buyer and seller have to do biometric confirmation within 30 days,” the department said.
Meanwhile, in case of Applied For and newly registered cars for sale, the department has offered an exemption to first owner. “For example, if the car is imported or booked in the name of person A, and registered in the name of person B, then person B has to give to provide his biometric,” the department explained.
