Licences of companies selling bad gasoline to be suspended by OGRA

Petrol is essential for cars; it’s their lifeline. However, if the lifeline itself become cancerous then what would become of the car? One could only imagine the disaster. Recently local oil market turned upside down when one of country’s leading automaker Honda filed a complaint in which it was stated that oil companies had added manganese in large quantity in the petrol to increase its RON (Research Octane Number). For days war of words between Honda and Oil companies continued, but it seems that all this is going to end as OGRA, according to a local media outlet, might suspend the license of oil companies that are involved selling bad petrol.

The story doesn’t end here OGRA with the suspension might also charge companies with a hefty penalty. Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority has received the report from the committee which is probing the sale of lousy petrol being sold by the companies. And according to the information, the committee got gasoline samples from petrol pumps and sent them to the Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan for the purpose of test and identification—in simple terms to check whether the complaint filed by Honda regarding the content of Manganese is true or not. The authority will act as to the recommendation of the committee.

The scenario is of great concern not only for the car but also for the general public. The manganese particles released into the air when inhaled by humans cause respiratory disease and can also damage the brain. Different environmental agencies have declared manganese as a malicious and hazardous air pollutant. And for cars, manganese-based additives are harming engine components as well emission system and severely hurt the overall performance of the vehicle.
