For the past couple of months, the prices of petroleum products have been rising world-over, and same is happening in Pakistan, the prices in the country have gone up drastically. However, recently State Minister for Petroleum Jam Kamal has given an interesting statement in National Assembly (NA), he said that the prices of petroleum products in Pakistan compared to other regional countries such as India and Sri Lanka are less.
He said in the National Assembly of Pakistan that oil price in Pakistan is Rs.77.40 while in India and Sri Lanka the prices are Rs.118 and Rs.87 per liter. Additionally, he further went on to say that the oil price in Bangladesh is PKR 112.
Mr. Jam also asserted that rise in prices of petroleum products internationally directly affect the prices in the local market, but despite the surge in the prices, the government of Pakistan has not hiked the prices much as compared to other regional countries. He shot down the notion that government has imposed illegal taxes on petroleum products.
Furthermore, Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has launched the new modern fleet of the lorry for the transportation of oil countrywide. According to PSO the new transport lorry fully adheres the rules and standard set by OGRA (Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority) and National Highway Authority.
The main aim of introducing the new fleet of oil carriers is to ensure safe and secure movement of oil in the country. It is pertinent to mention here that a new regulation was introduced by OGRA for oil tankers after the tragic incident of Ahmedpur Sharqia where 200 people died after trying to collect oil from an overturned oil tanker.
It is safe to assume that PSO has introduced the new fleet to comply with the newly placed standards of OGRA.
