Yesterday, we told you that Proton Pakistan had removed the prices of Proton SAGA and X70 from its website. The reports suggested Proton’s assembly operations in Pakistan have been halted for over a month, with no automobiles being produced since the start of May 2023. Sources state that assembly operations will resume once the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits arrive.
Meanwhile, reliable sources told us that the company would have the kits soon, and prices would be announced per rupee performance against the dollar clearance rate. Now there is an addition in the news.
New Prices Post Budget
As per those same reliable sources, Proton Pakistan will announce new prices after the Fiscal Budget 2023-24 announcement. “After the arrival of new kits, the car assembler will share the revised rates of its cars,” the sources affirmed. The revised prices are expected due to the present economic situation in the country. As clear from the above information, like other companies, Proton is also facing in importing CKD kits for assembling. On the other hand, the dollar rate is extremely unstable, causing uncertainty in the market and impacting the prices of imported items.
The last major update about the company was the expected launch of the luxury crossover SUV Proton X90. The vehicle was launched in Malaysia in May 2023. According to the company official, the car would be launched in Pakistan, but there is no specific timeline for the launch specifically due to the unstable economic condition.
Proton X90 is the third crossover SUV by a Malaysian car company after X70 and X50. The company has launched Proton X70 in Pakistan, but it has faced multiple issues ranging from delays in the import of CKD kits to delivery problems. COVID-19 has seriously hampered the sales and production of Proton cars in Pakistan because Malaysia was among the countries with the strictest shutdowns during the pandemic.
