Punjab Smart Registration Vehicle Card Crisis Resolved!
Punjab government has successfully resolved the smart registration vehicle card crisis in the province. According to media reports, the government will prepare 7-lac of delayed cards in the next 45 days.
The reports further stated that a new plant is established in the DG Excise building for this purpose. The raw material for the cards has also arrived in Lahore from the United States, the reports said.
Provincial Minister of Punjab for Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Hafiz Mumtaz and other officials visited the site to overlook the arrangements.
Non-Company Dealers’ Security Fee:
Under the Dealer Vehicle Registration System (DVRS), the government will reduce the security fee for non-company dealers by 100 percent. According to the sources, the provincial government will soon issue a notification about this policy.
The established plant will print and prepare 1.4 million motor vehicle smart cards in the first phase.
Issue of Smart Card:
Earlier this year, PakWheels reported that Excise and Taxation Punjab failed in delivering the smart cards and vehicle registration number plates to the customers for almost a year.
There was a shortfall of nearly 2 million smart cards and more than 7 million registration plates across Punjab. The public is facing severe issues while commuting because the traffic police impound vehicles without registration plates and smart cards.
Computerized Number Plates:
Last month, the Punjab government took steps to resolve the two-year-old crisis of new computerized number plates. According to media reports, a financial bid for new plates to National Radio Tele Communication Corporation (NRTC) was opened.
Under the tender, the price for new number plates stayed the same as the old ones. “The plates for car, bus and truck will be prepared in Rs1027, while number plates for motorcycle and rickshaw will cost the only Rs710,” the reports stated.
