Suneel’s Review of Newly Launched GuGo Box EV

0 2,207

The newly launched GuGo Box Ev in Pakistan—yes, you heard it right—is a compact electric crossover designed for urban mobility and efficiency. Suneel gives his honest review. A few days ago, it was launched in Pakistan’s EV market.

Already launched in China as the Dongfeng Box, the car arrives in Pakistan with three variants: E1, E2, and E3. The E3 is the top variant, and today’s first-look review focuses on that.

With its bold design, impressive driving range, and tech-packed cabin, is the GuGo Box the perfect EV for Pakistani buyers? Let’s explore the details.

Power & Battery – What’s Under the Hood?

The GuGo Box E3 is powered by a 43 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, producing 93 HP and 160 Nm of torque. It is front-wheel drive (FWD) and uses a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) for smooth acceleration.

One of the biggest concerns for EV buyers is range, and GuGo Motors claims the following figures:

  • 440 km range (CLTC standard)
  • 360 km real-world range (WLTP estimate)
  • 309 km range (EPA estimate)

These figures are claims, but many factors suggest the GuGo Box can handle daily commutes in Pakistan.

Frunk & Battery – What’s Under the Hood?

Since the GuGo Box is an EV, it doesn’t have a traditional engine under the hood. Instead, the front compartment houses essential electrical components. Suneel explains that this frunk (front trunk) contains:

  • 70 kW permanent magnet electric motor
  • A small lead-acid battery for auxiliary functions
  • High-voltage wiring and controllers
  • Cooling system for the electronics

He also points out that this is not a storage space, unlike some other EVs that offer extra cargo room in the frunk. Instead, this area is dedicated to technical components that manage the car’s electric power system.

Charging Time & Motor:

  • AC Charging (6.6 kW): 4.5 – 5.5 hours for a full charge
  • DC Fast Charging: 0 to 80% in 30 minutes

With fast charging support, the GuGo Box is well-suited for urban driving and quick top-ups.

Exterior Design Newly Launched GuGo

The GuGo Box has a distinctive design, combining modern EV styling with bold elements.

  • At the front, it features:
  • Full-width LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs)
  • Adaptive headlights (E3 variant)
  • A high-tech 360-degree camera system
  • Pink Gold trim accents for a unique touch.

The side profile stands out with the following:

  • Concealed, pop-out door handles
  • Pillarless doors
  • 17-inch alloy wheels (E3 variant)
  • At the rear, the GuGo Box gets large LED-connected taillights, a black piano strip, and parking sensors.

Overall, it looks modern, youthful, and different from anything else on Pakistani roads.

Interior & Cabin Experience

Suneel was impressed by the interior quality, describing it as luxurious and premium.

  • White & black two-tone synthetic leather seats
  • A driver’s seat with Welcome Mode & Auto Adjustment
  • A floating center console for extra storage
  • Soft-touch materials & ambient lighting

However, he also noted that the white color might get dirty quickly in Pakistan’s conditions.

Technology & Infotainment

The GuGo Box is loaded with tech features, including:

  • 5.1-inch LCD digital instrument cluster.
  • Passive entry means a keyless entry car will start automatically.
  • Welcome seat means the seat will adjust itself according to you.
  • 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen.
  • Smartphone Mirror Link (E2 & E3 variants).
  • Wireless charging pad.
  • USB-C ports for fast charging.
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are not available in this car, but you can mirror through a QR code.

Everything is controlled via the touchscreen, including:

  • Driving modes (Eco, Comfort, Sport, Custom).
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
  • Vehicle settings & safety features.
  • Regional Braking system makes energy when you push brakes; you can set it to Weak, Medium, and Strong.

Overall, the GuGo Box offers a high-tech, premium cabin experience.

Safety is an essential factor for EV buyers, and the GuGo Box E3 comes with advanced safety features.

  • Only two airbags
  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
  • Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

For the E3 variant, additional ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) include:

  • Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR)

However, Suneel was disappointed that the Pakistani version only gets two airbags.

Space & Comfort in Newly Launched GuGo

The GuGo Box is a C-segment crossover, meaning it offers more space than traditional hatchbacks.

Suneel found the rear seats to be surprisingly spacious, even with the front seat pushed back.

  • Flat rear floor for comfortable seating
  • ISOFIX child seat anchors
  • Only the Driving seat is 6-way auto-heated and Ventilated
  • 60/40 split rear seats for extra cargo space

One interesting feature is Rest Mode, where the seats recline into a flatbed-like position—perfect for relaxing on long trips.

Expected Price & Market Competition

The official launch event in Islamabad on February 6, 2025, will reveal the final price. However, based on market trends:

Variant Price (PKR) Booking Price (PKR)
E1 (Base Model) 6,300,000 500,000
E2 (Mid Variant) 7,300,000 1,000,000
E3 (Fully Loaded) 7,700,000 1,500,000

With the Top varient, they are giving a 6.5 kwh charger, and with the base variant, they are giving three kwh. At this price, the GuGo Box is more affordable than the ORA 03 and Seres 3 while offering similar or even better features.

Where GuGo Box Wins?

Despite its lower price, the GuGo Box beats the ORA 03 in several key areas.

1. Price Advantage

  • PKR 1.3 million cheaper than ORA 03
  • Entry-level E1 variant is one of the most affordable EVs in Pakistan

2. Better Driving Range

  • 430 km (CLTC) vs. ORA 03’s 400 km (WLTP)
  • More mileage per charge, ideal for city driving

3. Superior Infotainment & Audio

  • 12-inch infotainment screen vs. ORA 03’s 10.25-inch display
  • 6 speakers vs. ORA 03’s four speakers
  • Smartphone Mirror Link support (missing in ORA 03)

4. Extra Comfort & Convenience

  • Automatic Parking (missing in ORA 03)
  • 360-degree camera with Transparent View
  • Headlight Leveling System (not found in ORA 03)

With these advantages, the GuGo Box positions itself as a strong competitor in Pakistan’s EV market.

GuGo Box Warranty & Final Verdict

Suneel highlights the warranty details for the GuGo Box, explaining what buyers can expect in terms of coverage:

  • Vehicle Warranty: 2 years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first.
  • Battery Warranty: 4 years or 150,000 km, ensuring long-term reliability for the EV battery.

This warranty coverage is standard for the industry, though some competitors provide longer battery warranties. However, the 150,000 km battery warranty is a significant plus, offering peace of mind for those concerned about long-term EV ownership in Pakistan.

Suneel wraps up by acknowledging that the GuGo Box is a fun, stylish, and feature-packed EV, making it perfect for city driving. Some of its standout features include:

  • Affordable price point – Competitive pricing compared to other EVs with similar specs.
  • High-tech features – A modern infotainment system, ADAS, and smart connectivity.
  • Spacious, futuristic design – Comfortable seating and practical interior layout.

However, the limitation of only two airbags is worth considering before making a purchase.
